In your charity please pray for the soul of Edward Fulcher, the last sibling of the late Bishop George A. Fulcher. I gave Ed the Last Rites at Kobacker House and offered his funeral Mass at Mother of Sorrows last Tuesday. May he rest in peace.

The good news is -- we needed rain badly; the bad news is -- it came during the festival. The crowds were not what we hoped for. The tents didn't hold up too well either. Later in the night as the winds and water did their work the tents tore and the frames bent. In the morning it looked like Godzilla had passed through. It was great having the Alumni back at St. Mary's. Special greetings to the Jubilee Classes and among them the class of 1961, celebrating 55 years.
School is starting! "Summer's lease hath all too short a date." Welcome back, dear students and faculty. May every blessing be yours this year.
I will be away from the parish between August 19th and August 28th. I will remember you in my prayers on my trip. Keep me in yours as well.
The Lord be with you!

From the cat at 684 South Third:
It's raining, it's pouring, and the old pastor's snoring. And so am I for about 18 hours a day. People are like cats. They don't like to get rained on. I haven't figured out why people like to swim. On the other hand, folks don't want to get in the dunk tank. You humans have an odd relationship with water. I'm getting older and my hearing is not so good. I was able to sleep under the window near where the band was playing and it was at the perfect volume.
My job for the festival was to guard the cakes and pies that were stored in the kitchen of the rectory since the cake stand was right outside the door. I was given this task since everyone knows I will not be taking "samples." I did see someone walk out with a plate of brownies. I must say I did not hear the game wheel spinning. Cats won't say names but the person was in black. I might reveal the name, but I was bribed with a slice of turkey.
Let them eat cake! (And pies. Save the turkey for me.)
