Notes from the Pastor

In your charity please pray for the souls of the following who have died:  Susan Weilbacher, 68, a graduate of Bishop Ready High School; Joseph Castrodale, 14, a student at St. Paul School in Westerville, and the younger brother of a diocesan seminarian, Tony.  May they rest in peace.

A memorial Mass in the Extraordinary Form was offered in France for the soul of the murdered priest, Fr. Jacques Hamel.  A large palm branch was placed on the catafalque.  The palm branch is the traditional emblem of martyrdom and is often seen in the images of saints who died for Christ.       May he rest in Peace.

The St. Mary Festival is coming and attendance is mandatory, except where prohibited by law or extenuating circumstances.  See you there!  Bring your friends. Bring your appetite.  Bring your wallet and release the prisoners.

My month as Chaplain on call for the Columbus Division of Police was relatively quiet; thanks be to God.  I was asked to bless a small and very brave child, aged, 5, and the son of a police officer.  The little boy was facing heart surgery.  He wasn't the least bit nervous.  All went well and he came back to the parish two days later to thank God and to rejoice in the success of the effort.

The Lord be with you!

Festival Time!  Come see me.  I'll be looking out a window in the rectory somewhere.

I heard about the little boy who had heart surgery at Children's.  He came to St. Mary's for a blessing.  He charmed the staff and they all prayed for him.  Someone asked him what he was going to do that day and he answered, "I'm five!"  You humans often fail to see the beauty of little children.  They always answer the question they wish you would have asked, instead of the one you did ask.  Being five is a great accomplishment.  Don't overlook it.  Be excited when children tell you their age.  And be even more impressed when they

Did you ever get a holey rock? (it is not holy; it is holey - there's a hole in it!) Ed Wesley, the pastor's brother-in-law found one on the beach in Florida and gave it to Father.  The beauty of a simple gift is to know that someone is thinking about you.  Now you have two great things to ponder:  the beauty of time - the     simple gift of friendship.

More next week.  I received a beautiful letter this week.  Still digesting it!

PS  I'm 18 and a half.
