Notes from the Pastor

In your charity please pray for the soul of Mary "Terry" Thomas, legendary parishioner, next door neighbor (actually across the street from the tower), whose funeral was held last Monday at St. Mary's and celebrated by Father Michael Watson.  Msgrs. Cody, Enke, and Fathers Black and Stluka concelebrated.  Fr. Droll was Master of Ceremonies.  Deacon Minner preached the homily.  Deacon Frank Iannarino also assisted.  The combined choirs sang the Mass as Terry had sung with them many years ago.  Burial was in Somerset behind Holy Trinity Church where she was married. May she rest in peace.

Father Emmanuel will be visiting our parish.  Please make him welcome when you see him.

Thank you for cards and greetings on the occasion of my 66th birthday.  I hate being sung to--glad I got that out of the way.

Please pray for Bishop Francis Reiss of Detroit who is celebrating his 50th anniversary as a priest this weekend.  I am planning to attend his anniversary Mass.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

I can tell it's the pastor’s birthday---a large number of cards and no Christmas Tree.  It took me awhile to figure this out.  He seems to like the stupidest gifts.  All I see is a pile of cards, photos, and a little confetti.  Not one person gave him any Meow Mix.

The St. Mary Festival is coming up.  I've been asked if I would take my turn in the dunk tank.  Even if you paid $1,000 dollars for dropping me in the water, you couldn't afford the medical bill after I was done scratching you!  I may make a brief visit in my travel box.  There are some people who do not believe I write this column.  Some go so far as to deny my existence.  I'm doing my part helping St. Mary School with my book.  You do your part and come to the festival and spend your money like there is no tomorrow.

How Dry I am,

Raphael the Non-Dunk-Tank Cat
