Notes from the Pastor

In your charity, please pray for the soul of Christopher Kempf, 57, brother of Donna Grundey and Fran Kempf, employees here at St. Mary.  May he rest in peace.

Father Lynch, although he is on vacation until his assignment to St. Michael, Worthington, he is busier than most priests.  He's covering Masses here and there, attending ordinations and baptizing babies.  Pray for vocations.

Congratulations to Father Thomas Buffer who is celebrating 25 years as a priest this Sunday.  Father Buffer was a senior in High School the year I was ordained. Do you remember in old movies the calendar pages flying off in rapid succession to show the passage of time?  That is the story of my life.

Starting July 1, I am on call with the Columbus Police Department.  The chaplain can be called at any time, but each is assigned a month - July is mine.  Pray for a quiet month, please.

On Friday, July 1, our city will be celebrating Red, White and Boom.  Please consider coming to St. Mary at 4:00 pm. for a patriotic organ concert by Bill Antoniak, entitled "Tribute to Veterans".

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 S. Third Street:

The pastor's assignment becomes mine by association, so I am the Official Cat of the Columbus Police Department for the month of July.  I patrol the house, maintain good order, deal with miscreants, administer punishments and bring a spirit of calm even when I am in the state of blessed repose.  It's a small precinct, but a very orderly one.

Veterans, soldiers, police officers, and fire fighters are my categories of favorite people.  I especially invite those who know or are veterans to come to the patriotic concert on Friday at 4:00 p.m.  Bill Antoniak will be playing and presenting this to you.  I'll be listening from the rectory, because my delicate ears cannot abide at close range all the sounds that come out of that tower of tone--St. Mary Pipe Organ.  I must talk to Bill sometime about a concert about pets.

I am looking forward to the Fourth of July--the day cats acquired their extremely strong sense of independence.

Independently yours,

Raphael

FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM

Ψ  Witnesses To Freedom: will take place from June 21 to July 4, 2016, a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome.   Visit the USCCB website at www.fortnight4freedom.org.

Ψ  Mass and Holy Hour: The Diocese will offer Mass during the Fortnight for Freedom followed by a Holy Hour with the intention of religious liberty on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, 5:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral.  All are welcome.  For more information about the Fortnight for Freedom, visit www.fortnight4freedom.org

GET CLOSER TO THE ONE YOU LOVE

You can do that on a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend! Marriage Encounter is 44 hours where married couples can get away from jobs, kids, chores, and phones—and focus only on each other. The next two weekends are August 5-7 and November 11-13, both in central Ohio. For more information or to register, contact Paul & Marilou Clouse at 614-834-6880 or visit our website at www.wwmecolumbus.org

SAINT PEREGRINE FUND

In 2010 Bishop Frederick Campbell and the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women launched a cancer responsive initiative. In 2016 this initiative was renamed the Saint Peregrine Fund. This fund will help cancer patients and their families with unmet needs through the Catholic hospital systems in our diocese. Please see the poster on the bulletin board at the rear of Church.

REMINDERS

ό  Please don’t forget to alert the parish office if you have moved.

ό  Please keep in mind the benefits of registering at your parish. Most often this includes a letter of acknowledgement that you are a registered and participating member when you are asked to be a God parent or sponsor.

No one has greater love than one who lays down his life for his friends. Jesus has done that for us, for you, for me. He won it back again and he accompanies us with his life, full of love. Let yourselves be accompanied by Jesus. He loves you!
