Notes from the Pastor

The Lenten Season is slowly bringing us to the purpose for the season.  We are now entering in the Solemnity of Holy Week.  The richness of this week is essential to our faith as we share in the sufferings, death and resurrection of Jesus.  It is a gift to be treasured and entered in to.  Palm Sunday (today) introduces us to the Mystery of our Salvation that this week presents to each of us.

Tuesday, March 22, there will be no Masses here.  There will be the Chrism Mass that takes place at St. Joseph Cathedral at 6:00 p.m.  It is a beautiful Mass in which the Holy Oils used for Baptism, The Sacrament of the Sick, Confirmation, and Holy Orders are blessed and distributed to the many churches in our diocese. On this special occasion, many of the priests of the diocese are present.  All are invited to St. Joseph Cathedral for this Mass.

Check the parish bulletin for the scheduling of the following:

 > Thursday, March 24, The Solemn Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament till Midnight.

> Friday, March 25, Mass of the Presanctified (Latin Liturgy) at Noon at Corpus Christi.

 > Friday, The Solemn Celebration of the Passion of the Lord (English) at 3:00 p.m. at Saint Mary.

> Friday, Tenebrae at 7:00 p.m. at Saint Mary.

> Saturday, March 26, The Solemn Easter Vigil (pray for all those entering the Church and the fullness of Faith) at 9:00 p.m.

> Sunday, March 27,   Easter Sunday 9:00 & 11:30 a.m.

During this Holy Week let us pray for each other as we walk with Our Lord.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin Lutz

From the Cat a 684 S. Third Street:

Easter is right around the corner.  I can tell most assuredly.  Here is a for instance: the other night Father Lutz did not return in time to portion out my evening meal. This put me in a very melancholy place--thinking all was lost and starvation was eminent--when lo and behold Father Droll arrived, my hero, and fed my famished self. I think Father Droll is crazy about me.  Lent changes hearts!

Getting ready for spring.  So much to do.  Dinner is a good start.  I recommend it to you as well!

Today, just the cat

During this season of Lent, the Jubilee Museum presents The Passion of Christ: The Crucifixion in Art, an exhibition from the Sacred Art Pilgrim Collection.  The exhibition runs from February 12 to March 27, 2016 and includes 53 works of art representing the Crucifixion of Christ. In antiquity, crucifixion was considered the most shameful means of execution, reserved only for the worst criminals but by the 4th century, however, the cross symbol rose in prominence.  In this exhibition, viewers will likely be struck by the sight of over 50 crucifixion images in particular by a special bronze wall cross done by sculptor Gilbert Jerome Singleton as a gift to St. John Paul II.  Many of Singleton’s works are included in the collections of the Vatican.

For more information please visit the Jubilee Museum and Catholic Cultural Center’s website at  or call 614-600-0054. A suggested donation of $10 per person is greatly appreciated.
