Notes from the Pastor

Happy Advent to St. Mary, Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas.

The Christmas Season invades the season of Advent and the radios are playing Christmas music 24/7.  Strangely the radio will stop playing Christmas music on Christmas day around dinner time -- then nothing again until the day after Halloween!  Before the last Christmas ornament is put away, you will see the heart-shaped candy boxes being displayed.  It's odd that the Church and the world are one season out of sync with each other.  Happy Valentine Day everybody --I'm just rehearsing, of course.

This Tuesday is a Holy Day of Obligation -- The Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  Every now and then I meet a Catholic that thinks this refers to Jesus. Actually, it refers to Mary being conceived without sin in preparation to be the Holy Mother of Jesus.  Check the Mass schedule in the bulletin for all three churches.

There will be several services and opportunities for confessions at all three churches.  Please check the bulletin and the announcements from the pulpit.  Confession is good for the soul.  After the Eucharist it is one of the greatest gifts of God.

The Lord be with you!

Fr. Kevin Lutz

From the Cat at 684 S. Third Street:

I have a beautiful view from the south windows of the rectory-- a veritable forest of Christmas trees.  Mine will be coming from that little forest and not a minute too soon.  My claws are sharp and ready for action.  This will be my 18th tree to climb.  Buy your tree there and help support St. Mary School!  For a $100 donation to the school, I will even come to your house and climb your tree and will break at least three ornaments. Anything for the children.

Less sunlight each day!  Even though I sleep an average of 18 hours per day, I like to sleep in bright sunlight.  The register grate does not compare at all with a sunbeam.

You may not know this, but Father Droll is quite the cook!  The house was filled with wonderful smells of turkey and other delights on Thanksgiving.  The pastor has no skills for cooking.  His idea of cooking is scooping ice cream.  I'm shivering to think of it.

Have a warm weekend!

We still have several gift tags remaining with one more week before our deadline. Please prayerfully consider participating this year and sharing the joy of Christmas with others. To participate, pick an “ornament” from the Christmas tree at the back of the church,  purchase the requested gift or gift card (Suggested gift amount is $30 or less) and attach the “ornament” with the gift information to the gift. Please do not wrap the gift (gift bags are ok). Return to the Giving Tree no later than Sun., Dec. 13th.  A special thanks to Sue Rock who has been making and donating the beautiful ornaments.

Week 8 – I’m almost two months old now. I’m not an “embryo” anymore. Now doctors call me a “fetus.” “Fetus” is a Latin word that means “little one.” I am little. I may be less than an inch and a half long! But my stomach is already making its own juices, and, using an ultrasonic stethoscope, you could listen to my heartbeat.

The 26th annual National Night of Prayer for Life will be on December 8, 2015.  This night of prayer links the feast days of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the unborn.  Catholics across the country will pray in unity in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Holy Rosary, prayer to St. Michael, silent prayers and hymns.  Prayer is encouraged from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; national hour of unity is 12 to 1 a.m.

The Catholic Men’s Conference is looking for a few good men to sing in the Men’s Conference Choir at the annual Catholic Men’s Conference on February 27, 2016 at the Voinovich Building on the Ohio State Fair Grounds.  We will hold one or two rehearsals prior to the event at a date, time, and location to be determined.  Please consider attending the Men’s Conference and singing with us at this exciting event! Contact Christopher Walsh at or at 614-464-2392 to sign up or for more information.
