From the Pastor’s Desk….…

I hope you enjoyed Father Paul Noble's coverage last weekend.  He has done much to recruit both many and good men for the seminary.

As I write these words, Pope Francis is speaking to the Bishops at St. Matthew Cathedral in Washington DC.  I've been bouncing from channel to channel -- NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, Fox News and watching many different interviews and angles of presentation.  Both the pope and the president spoke powerfully at the White House this morning.  Who draws crowds like this!!!  People are yearning for an authentic message.  People have been waiting since 4:00 a.m. and standing 30 deep just to catch a glimpse.  Pray the people listen to his message of peace and good will.

Bishop Campbell will be here on October 3rd to confirm the young men and women of our parish.  This will take place at the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, October 3rd.

Ruth Beckman, the legendary leader of JOIN which helps with daily emergency assistance, is retiring after many years.  A true friend of the poor and a sterling example of the service that Pope Francis calls his people to.

Stop by Corpus Christi on Sunday, Oct. 4th at 1:30 p.m. for a blessing of animals. Immediately following the blessing Corpus Christi will hold a Zoo Day from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Blessing of the animals is scheduled for Saint Mary on Oct. 24th.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 S. Third Street:

I just received my letter from the Cat Personnel Board that I am now the associate cat of Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas.  More writing to do!  I shall not decrease my efforts here, but rise to the occasion and take care of all three churches.

MASS CELEBRATING CONSECRATED RELIGIOUS OF THE DIOCESE

On the Memorial of St. Teresa of Avila, Bishop Campbell will celebrate a special Mass to celebrate the many contributions of men and women religious within our Diocese. The Mass will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 313 North State Street, at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be followed by a reception and women’s vocation fair for young women in the Parish’s activity center.  All are invited to attend; come and give thanks for the contribution of the brothers and sisters in the life of our Church!

THE SACRED REMAINS OF SAINT MARIA GORETTI, Patroness of Virtue and of Mercy, will be at Saint Joseph Cathedral on October 21, from 11:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., with a special Memorial Mass celebrated at 7:00 p.m. This is a first-of-a-kind visit of her remains to the United States and is coordinated with the Holy See’s Congregation for the Causes of Saints and the Treasures of the Church, and is part of a national Pilgrimage of Mercy in preparation for the Extraordinary Year of Mercy, which officially begins on December 8.  All who wish to venerate her sacred remains are invited.  For more information about Saint Maria Goretti, the importance of this opportunity, and this national Pilgrimage of Mercy, please visit: www.MariaGoretti.com. Please note there are no “reservations” associated with this one-day opportunity – the faithful are invited equally to Saint Joseph Cathedral for prayer and veneration of the sacred remains of Saint Maria Goretti.  It is suggested that you carpool, and make use of public parking facilities adjacent to the Cathedral; handicapped access to the Cathedral is available via elevator located on the west (courtyard) side of the Cathedral.

RECYCLE CONTAINER UPDATE

We have had several inquiries regarding the return of the recycle bin. Due to unresolved issues with our past vendor we sought other sources for this service which had always been provided to us at no cost.  This is not the case with other potential vendors. The decision has been made not to pursue this particular service at this time.
