The Bishop's Annual Appeal -- known endearingly as the BAA, takes off today. Our goal this year is $53,637.04. The united effort of all will make this possible and we may even outdo ourselves in generosity. As you know, anything over and above this goal amount comes back to the parish for its needs. This is our Sesquicentennial Year and it's a good time to knock off the remainder of the debt and leave a gift for the future. More on that later!
The Ordination of our Transitional Deacons took place Friday, May 1st. Please keep them in your prayers: Jeremiah S. Guappone, Timothy J. Lynch, Stephen M. Smith and Daniel J. Swartz. Timothy Lynch of our parish will be assigned here for the summer.
When you read this it will be May. It is so important that we listen to Our Lady of Fatima and pray the rosary--DAILY--for world peace and for sinners. May is a perfect time to develop this daily prayer "habit" to Our Lady. In our busy world it is sometimes necessary to pray the rosary a decade at a time throughout the day. I'm sure this is very understandable to our Heavenly Mother.
Pray for our little ones who will be making their First Communion next Saturday at Don't forget your own zeal and try to receive Our Lord every time as though it were your first time, your last time, your only time.
I would appreciate a few prayers for my sister, Sheila, who is home recovering from knee-replacement surgery.
The Lord be with you!

One of my most devoted readers died last week, Myrtle Dulin. She was very devoted to my column and book. Lovely lady who went to my old high school: Holy Family. (I didnt actually graduate from there but I was born in its shadow, and learned most of my cat knowledge from the people around it. Fr. Lutz and I are both regarded as honorary alumni.) Myrtle is one of my favorite plants its an evergreen and was sometimes woven into a crown to symbolize eternal life. I learned that from my old friend, Sister Mary Francis. She told me that she wore a crown of myrtle when she made her vows. Seems like an appropriate name for my friend, Myrtle. Two lovely ladies. Two saints!
Here is the news that everyone has been waiting for: The revelation of the names of the guinea pigs of the pre-school. d-d-drum r-r-roll ---Peppa and Petunia. I am so happy that the little ones have new pets to inspire them to be gentle, caring and responsible.
I remember once that Father suggested (after Easter a few years ago) that it might be nice to see occasionally ladies wear hats! He sort of made it as a joke, but the following Sunday it looked like a UFO Convention in church. Why not try it, ladies, just for May and see if the old priest notices! You didn't hear it here!
Raphael the Cat - ever hungry, ever tired - just for you!

DIOCESAN SENIOR CITIZENS
He has chosen each one of you for Himself, to be His light and His love in the world. The simplest way to become His light is to be kind and loving, thoughtful and sincere with each other. As Jesus said: By this they will know that you are my disciples. -from Thirsting for God
