From the Pastor’s Desk….…

In your charity please pray for the soul of Mrs. Linda Hargis whose memorial service was held at St. Mary's on Wednesday.  May she rest in peace.

Please pray for Dick Belt, brother of Joyce McCabe of St. Mary.  I gave him the Last Rites on Tuesday.  They both grew up on the same block as I did back in the 1950’s and 60’s.

Gaudete Sunday!  Rejoice!  The rose vestments signify the anticipated joy of Christmas.  Three candles are now lit and we are closer to the Holy Feast of Our Lord's birth.   Time seems to be going faster than any roller coaster I can remember.   Nothing seems to drag on except waiting at red lights.  My house has been decorated beautifully.  Do come and see during the weeks ahead.  I will be opening the house after Mass as time permits.  The decorations have been provided by Donna Salyers, and at her request the decorations are memorials to her son, Nicholas and to Father Pendolphi.

The baptismal font has been moved toward the back of the church from the front right. It seems that every pastor of the church moved it at least once, so I decided to join the club. Photos show it originally in the north confessional; then by the last pew; then halfway up aisle on the left, then under the preaching soundboard (that's what that elaborate piece with the statue of the Good Shepherd in it is called - those soundboards were originally designed to bounce the sound down of the preaching before the invention of microphones.

The Festival of Lights and the performance by the hand bell choir - the legendary Bells of St. Mary's - was a great beginning for German Village. Great music, many happy visitors, and the incredible displays at two homes of parishioners:  Don Thibault and a Christmas tree that is as beautiful as it is huge along with his outdoor Nativity set were the main draws on Mohawk.   Tom Dailey hosted an equally impressive crowd with the Holy Family choir singing and a pipe organ in his house that was amplified to the neighborhood.

I know you only pay attention to the cat, but I want to invite you to the Jubilee Museum during the Christmas Season.  There is a tour every day at 1:00 p.m. including weekends and an additional tour Saturday’s at 11:00 a.m.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

I'm so excited!  My tree is up and my book is coming out!  Everything I write here will be in the book.  Isn't that amazing?  There are also candles in all the front windows thanks to Tom Dailey (has a dog, needs a cat).  As you know my ancestors kept the Baby Jesus warm long ago, as I told you last week.  There are still cold people out there.  There are too many coats in your closets.  The local cats tell me that in the secret language that I cannot reveal.   If you don't have time to bring them to a worthy charity, leave them on my back porch and I'll get it done.

As you know all animals have the power of speech on Christmas at midnight for one hour.  I am rehearsing my little tune.  Perhaps you'll get to hear it.  Perhaps.
