From the Pastor’s Desk….…

Last Sunday after Mass and baptism I drove to Detroit for the vows of Michael Connaughton at St. Josaphat Church.  The ceremony was blessed by the presence of Bishop Reiss.  I have known Michael for many years and I pray that he will soon be a brother priest. After a short visit I drove back through a strong rain and wind storm.  I made it back to St. Mary's at 1:30 in the morning.  What a drive.  I wasn't worried until the Act of Contrition light lit up on my dashboard.

Now begins Advent and a great way to open the doors to our Sesquicentennial.  The best ingredient to make it a good year is a spirit of prayer and charity.  Jubilee Years were always times of great forgiveness and reconciliation.   Is there a burden of anger on your heart?  A long nursed resentment?  A festering wound?  I am sure we all have these.  The Jubilee Years is a great time to ask for God's mercy and show it to others.  Clean your house for the holidays and clean your heart for Our Lord.  Don't invite Him in to sit in a room of anger and resentment   Make peace of the Son of Peace!

Please keep Deacon Roger in your prayers.  He took a fall on the ice and broke a couple of ribs.  Do not stress him at all.  Let the good deacon breathe easily.  Prayers and rest are needed.

I wish you peace at the beginning of this Holy Season.  It is Monday and the bulletin is done early because of Thanksgiving.  Hope yours was a pleasant one.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

Father's not in a good mood.  He just got yelled at in language I dare not repeat by a street person that he has helped for many years.  It goes to show you that you can't do enough for people who are in the grip of addiction.  Father is right when he tells you not to try to be a social worker when you are not one.  Help the poor this Christmas.  Help JOIN, St. Lawrence Haven, Holy Family Soup Kitchen, our local food pantry, the Salvation Army and the many underfunded organizations that reach out to the poor.  Just don't hand out dollars along the freeway.   (Bossy for a cat, aren't I? - It's the nature of the beast.)

Looking forward to my tree.  I am going to make it to the top.  Christmas puts the youth back into my aching back.  I'd write more, but the bulletin must get out.

Raphael, friend of turkeys everywhere - with or without feathers!

PS  My hearing isn't too good. Did I hear something about Deacon Minner and ribs?  I love ribs.

ADOPT A FAMILY…will once again be providing toys and food for a number of families in our parish and school this Christmas. This year we will be also including some of our parish’s homebound elderly. Last year’s generous support allowed us to provide gifts and food to 13 families. Please prayerfully consider participating this year and sharing the joy of Christmas with others. To participate, pick an “ornament” from the Christmas tree at the back of the church, beginning  Sat., Nov. 22nd after the 4:00 p.m. Mass.  Purchase the requested gift or gift card and attach the “ornament” to the gift. Please do not wrap the gift (gift bags are ok) and return to the Giving Tree by Sunday, Dec. 14th.
