Remember that pesky debt that has been hanging over St. Mary?  Well, because of your generosity, it is considerably lower.  When I arrived it was $422,000.  Because of your support of the BAA, it is down to $257,712.48!  Not bad in a year. I divided that remainder by the number of registered households in the parish.  If every family considered a Christmas gift of $442.80 to St. Mary's, we would enter our Jubilee Year debt free.  For some, that amount is impossible.  For others, it might hardly be noticed.  At any rate, see if you can do a fraction of it (since we must all row as best we can on this mighty ship).  If your circumstances are better, consider doing a multiple of it.  We' are closer to throwing off the yoke of debt than I thought we'd be at this time.  Thanks!  I renew my pledge that we will not go into debt during my pastorate and that we will pay as we go.

The Lord be with you!

From the cat at 684 South Third . . .

I've had a couple of suggestions that my column should have a wider readership and that my most excellent letters should be compiled in a book.  Such wise readers I have!  Well, a young college age artist named Erin has agreed to be my artist and to render with exactitude my visage, my adventures and my dreams.  She is quite the artist and I have signed the usual non-aggression and no-claw clause with her.  Soon I will look at several of her drawings, so that one of them might accompany my letter to you each week.  I know many of you read this first in the bulletin.  I am sometimes asked if it is OK to read the bulletin in church.  Well, first, greet Our Lord who made you and brought you here.  Then pray for your family.  Then read my column.  If Father talks more than twenty minutes, you may read it during the sermon.  At twenty-five minutes, you may even hold it up in front of your face.   Read in heavenly peace.

Raphael

PS.  I would illustrate my own book, but it's that opposable thumb thing that makes it impossible.

FIRST FRIDAY MASS AND ALL-NIGHT EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

For years Holy Cross Parish has held an All-Night First Friday Eucharistic Adoration, beginning with Mass at 7:30 p.m., followed by Confessions for a period of time, concluding with Benediction at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.  This will continue, but with Holy Cross Church currently undergoing interior renovations the upcoming First Friday Mass, Confessions and Adoration will take place at the Cathedral on Friday, November 7.  Fr. Lumpe will be the Mass celebrant, will hear confessions, and will do Benediction on Saturday morning. Spread the word, as we need people to pray before the Blessed Sacrament throughout the night.  As Jesus asked Peter: “Could you not spend one hour with me?” Jesus also asks us this same question. Please contact Carol in the Cathedral Office to sign up for one of the hours of Adoration by calling (614) 224-1295 during regular business hours, or via e-mail: cathedral@columbus.rr.com. Following Mass, access to the Cathedral for Adoration will be available through the Fifth Street side entrance only; please park on the Cathedral lot.

If you are interested in joining an initial open-dialog meeting, please contact Ann in the parish office or Maria Nunez, at marianunez3@gmail.com.
