A little girl in the church wrote me a letter, but I can’t find it. She is very cute. I saw from my window as she gave the letter to Father. If I had opposable thumbs (you may need to look up the meaning of this), I could look more easily. I will do my best with this design flaw to find the letter and answer it next week. Be good, Cutie.

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER PAUL SHELTON

Dear Fr. Lutz and the parishioners and friends of St. Mary Church. I don’t know if I can come up with the words to thank you for celebrating my Mass of Thanksgiving with me.  The whole thing overwhelmed me, from the Knights of Columbus to the wonderful banquet following the service.  As I spoke in my sermon St. Mary has always played a very important part in my life and that of my family.  I believe my Grandmother and Grandfather were married in St. Mary Church.  My uncle John graduated from St. Mary high school where my Grandmother was the school secretary.  My Mother and all of her brothers and sisters attended and graduated from St. Mary grade school.  My Mother cleaned the latch key school to help pay our tuition when my brother, Ronnie and I went to St. Mary.  We helped her with that.  Mom was once president of St. Mary PTA and St. Mary Parish council.  I know she ran the homecoming a couple of years and worked bingo.  I could go on, but I won’t.

Your kindness and joy in helping me celebrate this momentous and humbling occasion in my life has not only meant the world to me, but to my brother and Mother as well.  It was as if we had come full circle.  I wish I was more eloquent in my words, but the best I can do is thank you and love & pray for all of you.  St. Mary will always be home to me and my family.

Your friend in Christ,                                      Fr. Paul Shelton
