From the Pastor’s Desk….…

Rejoice!  Rejoice!  God be praised.  Today St. Mary is blessed to celebrate the first mass of a newly ordained priest who is also a son of the parish:  Father P. J. Shelton, S.J.  Father is a graduate of St. Mary's School and St. Charles.  His mother, Sandy Rains attends St. Ladislas, although, I am sure Sandy will be here this weekend! What a great family.  This will be a great weekend of celebration with Father's First Solemn Mass of Thanksgiving.  There will be a grand reception in the gym following the 11:30 Mass.  This is a priceless grace for the parish.  Pray that First Masses become a more regular event here at St. Mary's.

School is out and the classrooms are being cleaned and in some cases painted.  I've walked through the building a few times and I think that even the walls miss the children. Pray for a safe and happy summer for the students and the staff.  "Summer's lease hath all too short a date."  June, July and August go sailing by quickly.  I remember a year when July was cancelled all together . . ..

Please keep Father Lumpe in your prayers.  He will be undergoing surgery for colon cancer.  The doctors are hopeful.  Let us be prayerful. In your charity please pray for Father Walker, FSSP, who was murdered in his rectory along-side his pastor Father Terra, FSSP who survived the attack.  After the assailant left, Father Terra struggled to call 911 and then crawled across the floor and gave the Last Rites to Father Walker.  I met Father Terra several times and probably shook hands with Father Walker when I visited the seminary several years ago.  Good priests both. They have already prayed for the attacker.  Lord, give us holy priests.

Thank you to the many folks who sent cards to me on the death of my good friend Father Pendolphi.  A copy of my homily was in the last edition of the Catholic Times.

The Lord be with you!

Fr. Kevin Lutz

From the cats at 684 South Third . . .

There has been a new creature in the house this week.  We can tell that he is a newly ordained priest as a cohort of angels accompanies him on his first year as a priest.  He seems nice. He looks a bit young, perhaps about 84 in cat years (that would be 12 years old in human reckoning).

Pray for him.  Pray for all priests.  Pray for vocations.

O Jesus, our great High Priest, hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priests.  Give them a deep faith, a bright and firm hope and a burning love which will ever increase in the course of their priestly life. In their loneliness, comfort them.  In their sorrows, strengthen them.  In their frustrations, point out to them that it is through suffering that the soul is purified, and show them that they are needed by the Church; they are needed by souls; they are needed for the work of redemption.

WOMEN TO WOMEN Listening Circle

All women of any age or life circumstances are invited to WOMEN TO WOMEN Listening Circle at Corpus Christi Center of Peace, 1111 E. Stewart Ave. on the second Thursday of each month. A simple soup lunch will be shared at

11:30 a.m. if you care to join us.  Our Listening Circle will begin at Noon and end at 1:30 p.m. We believe that women who come together to support each other by sharing and listening actually empower one another to believe in themselves in new ways.  Like love, wisdom is meant to be shared. Women to Women is a safe, non-judgmental, confidential place where we can be who we are. There are no requirements.  This is simply a place to step away, breathe and share with other women. No pre-registration is necessary.  Just come as you are. For information, call CCCoP at 614-512-3731 or email

God our Father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old. We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation that they may find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.

We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.

We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love. Amen
