From the Pastor’s Desk….…

Thank you for your many kind notes and prayers on the death of my friend, Father Pendolphi.  What a good priest.  Father had made a few visits to St. Mary and he thought that the church was very beautiful, as indeed it is.  Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His faithful ones.  Bishop Hettinger used to say "Venit hora absque mora."  Cometh the hour without delay."  None of us knows the day or hour.  All rather sobering.  I certainly look at death with the eyes of faith, but it's still hard to lose a friend of 47 years.  I am praying for his soul and ask you to do the same.

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Graduates of St. Mary School. They're off and running.  A great group of young men and women - I wish them every blessing from Almighty God.  I gave them each a letter to open in 4 years when they graduate from high school.  I'm sure this letter will occasionally be a temptation to open early.  I hope they don't.

The Jubilee Museum is sponsoring an unusual event: an Arts and Antiques Appraisal Fair on Saturday June 28, 10 am - 4 pm and Sunday June 29, 11 am - 5 pm.  Appraisal $10 per item - limit of two.  This will help fund the museum.  We’re at 57 South Grubb Street just west and south of Holy Family.

By the way, the museum is rated # 1 of attractions in Columbus. Look up attractions in Columbus on Trip Adviser and see who we beat!

BIG AND IMPORTANT NEWS!  On June 15th , son of the parish and newly ordained Father P.J. Sheldon will offer a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Mary's at 11:30 a.m. Father attended school here at St. Mary and high school at St. Charles.  Father joined the Jesuits after his studies at Marquette University. There will be many Jesuits here for Mass that day.  Bring your dictionary.

The Lord be with you!

Fr. Kevin Lutz

From the cat at 684 South Third . . .

I heard Father Lutz talking to the strange plastic thing he often holds to his ear.  He was saying things that made no sense, like, "Stop smoking.  Take care of your health.  I have lost two friends this year and smoking was at least a factor in their deaths.  I don't want to lose another friend.  Please stop smoking."  I have no idea what that meant since I assume I am his best friend and I don't smoke.  Perhaps Father has other friends.  I know that owning a cat is cheaper than smoking, and I can only assume that it's much more fun.  On behalf of everyone who talks into the plastic and sounds so sad, I can only say, please stop smoking.

You humans do have peculiar habits.  Setting fire to dead leaves in your mouth has got to be close to the top of the list.

How Love Is Judged
The most trivial work, the least action when inspired by love, is often of greater merit than the most outstanding achievement. It is not on our face value that God judges our deeds, even when they bear the stamp of apparent holiness, but solely on the measure of love we put into them.—St. Thιrθse of the Child Jesus
