From the Pastor’s Desk

While typing this bulletin I just received word of the death of Lisa Landis, 33, the young lady I have been visiting.  May she rest in peace.

This weekend I am at Corpus Christi and St. Ladislas Churches and Father Rod Damico is here.  Please make him welcome in every way.  I thought it was about time that I visited the other churches under my care (although I do nothing for them – Father Rod does an excellent job).  Father has a busier schedule than me on weekends with four masses rather than three.  This weekend is also known as Laetare Sunday.  The first words of the Introit of the Mass are “Laetare, Jerusalem!” or “Rejoice, Jerusalem!” Even in the middle of Lent, the church rejoices as we anticipate the victory of Christ over death in His glorious Resurrection.  Customarily the vestments are rose colored (not pink!), as a sign of the joy and hope of this weekend.

There is an excellent silent movie, “King of Kings,” being shown here at St. Mary’s and at St. Leo’s.  Mark your calendar, bring a friend and have a wonderful experience of a tremendous organ score written to accompany this epic film.  Shawn Kenney will accompany this event on the historic pipe organs in these churches.  You will be amazed at the sounds that these organs can make.  St. Leo will host the event on April 12 and St. Mary on April 14.  It will be a great spiritual experience.  Suitable and safe for children as well.

More about the Sesquicentennial:  Each week either in the bulletin or from the pulpit (or both) you will hear about plans and needs.  Please consider getting involved in some small way to add your talent or support to the effort.  I hope that 2015 will be a year of joyful reunions, visits, celebrations, memories and a renewed commitment to our future.

I will be out of the parish from Sunday afternoon until Wednesday afternoon.  I will be visiting some seminarians in Detroit.  Say an extra prayer as that will be mid-winter for Michigan.  Masses will be covered as usual.

The Lord be with you!

Father Kevin F. Lutz

From Raphael of the Terrestrial Abodes, the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

Pets be with you!  The pastor keeps looking for blue skies.  There are a thousand things more worth looking for than blue skies and almost all are edible.  Do you like my title above?  As part of the royal lineage of cats, I have dozens of lofty and meaningful titles.  From time to time I will share a few for you to use when trying to impress your friends or dogs.  My most important title – Creature of God – gets the least attention.  I really must teach a little more theology so that you may be wiser in who you are and aware of Who made you.  It’s off to the rectory chapel for me.  A little nap in God’s presence is just what the vet ordered.  Take a nap yourself and thank God for the gift of sleep.

Raphael, Co-regent of German Village (I have to share the title with a dog!)
