From the Pastor’s Desk

In your charity please pray for the souls of Timothy Specht and Virginia Crossen Nau who died and were buried this past week.  May they rest in peace.

This weekend following all the masses you are invited to come and see the rectory all decorated for Christmas.  There will be refreshments and a tour of the entire downstairs.  Children and adults will love the St. Nicholas Room (the dining room).  It may never have looked better or more festive in its history.

The beautiful decorations are the gift of the Salyers Family in memory of their son, Nicholas, who died several years ago.  You will also like the chapel in the rectory.  Come in, set a spell (but don't take your shoes off, this ain't the Beverley Hillbillies after all!)

What an incredible stable I see in the church.  No parish I have ever been in has had anything remotely close to it.  I am told that the angel above is missing.  That may be my Christmas gift to bring an extra from the museum.

Hope to see you at the museum to view the nearly 100 nativity sets. There will be a counting sheet to see how many there are. Prizes will be given to all who get the correct number or come very close!  See you there between 11:00-2:00 for the next four Saturdays and between 1:00-3:00 for the next four Sundays.  The museum is located at 57 South Grubb Street, just off West Broad, one block west and one block south of Holy Family Church.

Many reports tell of an increase in depression around the holiday season.  Pray for those who are in pain at this time over the loss of a loved one, an unfulfilled dream or just a sense of being alone without hope.  May the peace of Christ penetrate deeply into the pain and suffering of these good souls.

The Lord be with you!

Fr. Kevin F. Lutz

From the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

Father is slowly moving over to the church for Mass.  I will append my column to his.  Aren't you impressed that I can use words like append?  I am an old cat and have learned many words. Here's a list of the words and phrases that I have learned especially during this time when the tree gets dragged into the house:  love, forgive, pray, overlook much, pardon, make overdue apologies, despise revenge, seek reconciliation, ask for mercy and be willing to show it and relax! You didn't know I was such a religious cat, did you!  Wait till you see my CATechism.

Come see my tree before I destroy it.  Stick to the cookies when you come in.  The salmon treats are all mine!
