From the Pastor’s Desk

From the Cat at 684 South Third . . .

Father Lutz (as you call him; my name for him is Slow Moving Bearer of Food) is on spin cycle and so I am doing the bulletin.  I know that Father is busy.  It happens every year when he drags a tree into the house and hangs shiny things for me to break from its branches. The house is looking great. I know Father has plans to open the house for all to stop in during Christmas and see all the decorations he has put out for me.  He will also supply cookies (ugh!).  These are put out as a diversions to keep you all out of my salmon treats.  Please respect that boundary when you enter!

Last Sunday was great.  I heard the music coming out of the church, and I saw the people on the street carrying trees (apparently a lot of you have cats and bring in trees for their entertainment).  I also saw a horse pulling a cart with many people on board. I loved the Maennerchor and Damenchor; the hand bells and the children's choir and all the others who sang.  I am sad that I was not asked to sing a Noooooeeeel !!

Father was talking to people about something called Mangers in the Museum.  Children will love it. There will be a contest to count the nativities and the angels and so on.  There will be prizes and refreshments.  It starts this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and goes to 3:00 p.m.; and on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Bring a donation of food for the soup kitchen, or a blanket for the homeless. It all takes place in the neighborhood where I was born:  Franklinton at 57 South Grubb Street (one block west and one block south of Holy Family Church).

Father has also been talking about the concert at St. Leo this Sunday at 3:00 p.m.  I may attend if there are no veterinarians present.  (I hate shots).

I hear that sinners can get some help Sunday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. on the 15th.  Father was praying about that in his chapel.  I do go to the chapel.  Don't forget: Catholic starts with cat!

Some of you may doubt that I have written this letter, since there are capital letters.  Well, Ann is my proof-reader and she takes care of those details.

Paws and claws to you!

Raphael the Cat

Lord, Open My Eyes
God, sometimes I get so caught up in my own life that I become blind to the needs of those around me. Open my eyes this Advent to see how my life fits into the larger story of your plan for the human family.
