From the Pastor’s Desk

It is a chilly/ sunny Wednesday as I write this.  Raphael the great cat of the west side has adjusted to his new digs.  His post script in this column was well received and earned more comments than my sermon. Hmmmmm.

Tomorrow two postulants of the Children of Mary will be admitted as novices and receive the habit and white veil.  The Mass will be a Solemn High at St. Leo.  My Latin students are attending it. They are more interested in the part where the sisters' hair is cut than the Latin at this point.

Two wills were sent to the parish and both named St. Mary's as recipients of a certain portion of the estate. It is good to do a little extra good even after you pass from this world.  The gifts and names will be listed after all matters are settled. Your temporal future here will be a better one for their kindness.

I have encouraged people to make their plans while it is still day, so to speak.  Cometh the night when no man can work.  Here are two suggestions:  Make a will and be mindful of your family, the poor and your parish.  Call the office and ask for a Funeral Mass Plan from Ann.  It will give you suggestions and options and be kept on file for that time.  Keep a copy with your important papers, and possibly with your funeral director

Thank you for the cards and good wishes that have continued to come in for my 35th anniversary.  It has been more memorable than any off-year celebration.

These are the days of remembering the death of President John F. Kennedy 50 years ago and the Gettysburg address 150 years ago. Like many, I remember where I was when the news came.  It was my eighth grade year, and Mother Justin the principal came in, looking quite upset.  She announced that the president had just been shot and to please take out our rosaries and pray.  What a Catholic moment: every child had a rosary!  We were dismissed early from school at Sacred Heart.  Before leaving the playground, the housekeeper ran out of the rectory toward the school to share the news that the president had just died.  Even as a child I knew that the world was different.  Indeed it was. 1963 is almost like a line of demarcation:  the Church and the world changed more in the next seven years than in the years since Lincoln.

God's peace be with you!

The Lord be with you!

Fr. Kevin F. Lutz

ADVENT PILGRIMAGE OPPORTUNITY - ENJOY A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION OF FAITH

Advent is the time when we are called to make straight the way of the Lord, and you can do that if you want to join Father Wagner on an Advent pilgrimage experience as we tour the Cathedrals of the Ohio River. These two beautiful cathedrals of Covington and the Archdiocese of Cincinnati will inspire you to prepare your hearts for the coming of the Lord at Christmas. In addition, two bonus locations make this an even more spiritual holiday pilgrimage. This one-time event departs from Christ the King Catholic Church at 8:00 a.m. on December 14, 2013. You can go to CatholicChurchTour.com or call 614-547-9397 if you want to buy tickets for this single bus tour.

Prayer for Courage
Lord, please give me courage to love you. Give me courage to serve you. Give me courage to tell others about you. Give me courage to grow closer to you. Give me courage to pick up my cross each day as you picked up yours. Remove from me all fear so that you can put me to work for your kingdom. Amen.
