From the Pastor's Desk

In your charity please pray for the soul of Edith Madden. Her graveside funeral service is Saturday at noon at St. Joseph Cemetery. May she rest in peace.  Please remember her husband in your prayers. They had over 64 years of marriage. I gave Edith the Last Rites this past Sunday afternoon at Grant Hospital.

Father Wagner, who recently offered Mass when I preached was impressed with our practice of praying after each Mass.  He went back and started this same custom at his church and tells me that it was well received.  For those who weren't here for the announcement, I am asking all to pray an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for vocations and the Prayer to St. Michael for the protection of the church at the close of each Mass. {FYI: a copy of the St. Michael Prayer should be available this weekend.} We'll see how the printer does.

One of these days I would like to host a "picnic" luncheon at the Jubilee Museum, some Sunday perhaps. I started the museum and after 15 years, it's going strong. Recently the family of Frances Grispino donated about ten boxes of her earthly treasures to the museum.  They include many pictures and statues, rosaries and prayer books.  They will soon find their way to displays in the museum.  Don't throw out any of your beautiful old books and the like. Without this connection to the past we develop a spiritual amnesia.  Our history is our foundation. Naturally, if you have anything that is historical to St. Mary it is most welcome here, even an old report cards can help tell the story of this historic parish. If you are embarrassed about the grades you received, it's not that hard to turn an F into an A.

They are clamoring for me to make the bulletin deadline. But first a hysterical joke I heard:

They just came for the column.  Hysterical joke later!

Sorry!

The Lord be with you!                               Fr. Kevin F. Lutz

Lord, I Am Here
Whenever I go to the chapel, I put myself in the presence of our good Lord, and I say to him, “Lord, I am here. Tell me what you would have me to do.” If he gives me some task, I am content and I thank him. If he gives me nothing, I still thank him since I do not deserve to receive anything more than that. –St. Catherine Labouré
