From the Pastor's Desk

The first days of the new school year have been filled with great enthusiasm. I look forward to working with our staff, students and administration in the coming days and months.

I experienced my first Schultueten presentation as we recognized our first graders on their first day of school. I understand this has become a tradition here at Saint Mary and was pleasantly surprised when I was presented with my own Schultueten as a first timer at this event.

I will be teaching a Latin Class of Enrichment to the upper grades this year and look forward to teaching again. We will celebrate our all school Mass each Friday at 8:15 a.m. with Adoration following Mass on each First Friday.

This Sunday, Aug. 25th, will be my fourth Sunday as your new Pastor. Please be patient as I strive to remember everyone’s name. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to me multiple times, if necessary; rest assured I will come to know each one of you.

I had the pleasure of touring the Archive Room located in the Specht Center and was extremely impressed with the incredible display of Saint Mary historical memorabilia. As most of you know, I have a deep love and respect for the past.

I sometimes tell people that the XIII century is my mailing address. Most of the things we cherish began then; Magna Carta, hospitals, universities, the development of the best in art, music, architecture, literature and the like. Hard to top that list!!

Just a reminder we will end each Mass, daily and weekend, by praying the Lord’s Prayer, a Hail Mary, the Glory Be and the Pray to the Archangel Saint Michael that goes accordingly:

Saint Michael the Archangel, Defend us in battle, Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all evil spirits who prowl about the world, seeking the ruin of souls.  Amen

Please pray for me.

The Lord be with you!                               Fr. Kevin F. Lutz

Service Saturday, sponsored by Catholic Social Services, will be held on October 12th. THE BLUE MASS….St. Timothy Church and St. Timothy Knights of Columbus Council 14345 will host the 2013 Blue Mass on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.  The Blue Mass is an opportunity to honor and pray for all active, retired and deceased police, firefighters, and emergency medical services. In addition, it is an occasion to remember the 2,973 who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The Celebrant and Homilist for The Blue Mass will be Bishop Frederick F Campbell, DD, PhD, reception following Mass.

Birthright of Columbus, a pregnancy support service, will have their annual Luncheon & Style Show, with Raffle & Silent Auction, on Sat. Sept. 21, at Clintonville Women’s  Club at noon. Christopher & Banks are providing the fashions. There will also be a Raffle & Silent Auction.  Tickets are $30. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support the pro-life movement and a great time for friends to socialize. Call Marge at 888-0917 or Mary Jo at 235-7465 for reservations. The deadline is Sept. 12.

“In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let not her name depart from your lips; never suffer it to leave your heart. And that you may more surely obtain the assistance of her prayer, neglect not to walk in her footsteps. With her for guide, you shall never go astray; while invoking her, you shall never lose heart; so long as she is in your mind, you are safe from deception; while she holds your hand, you cannot fall; under her protection you have nothing to fear; if she walks before you, you shall not grow weary; if she shows you favor, you shall reach the goal” (St. Bernard)

We kicked off the 2013-14 school year in grand fashion with our annual ice cream social held on Monday, Aug. 19th.

The first day of school, Aug. 21st, we welcomed 230 students in grades K-8 and 41 students in our Pre-K program. Bishop Campbell and Father Lutz joined us as we recognized and honored our first graders with the 8th annual presentation of a Schultueten, a German tradition that celebrates a child’s first day of formal schooling.

We will celebrate our first all school Mass next Friday, August 30th at 8:15 a.m. Please come and pray with us.
