From the Pastor's Desk

God's peace be with you all!  Here beginneth my weekly columns. I have tried to write a little about my week, matters of faith, interests of the parish and heads up on events. There will be prayer concerns here as I visit the sick and humorous moments that just occur on their own without warning.

My first weekend was very pleasant.  The music at all three masses was very nice, and your congregational singing is well above average. The good deacon was ever-present to make sure that all was done well. The entire staff has done much to make me feel welcome. God reward you all!

The Festival preparations have been in earnest, and by the time many of you read this, it will be history. At this moment it looks like it should be a success. Thanks to all who have spent long hours setting up and preparing for this event. Yesterday when I stopped briefly at Holy Family to pick up my mail, I saw a parishioner there modeling a T shirt that you will likely have seen this weekend. It says "Holy Family - God's Favorite Parish" - and on the back: "Friend of Fr. Lutz"  I made an off-hand remark in my farewell sermon, that they should all come to St. Mary's Festival and wear a sign that says Fr. Lutz friends. I do have some sweet and crazy friends.

I visited Toni Neal at OSU. On my second visit, I was told that she had moved to Dodd Hall. That's a good sign. Joe Tapia was also in SICU at OSU.  The nurse told me he was from Newark, but the call came to St. Mary's. We're all God's children, so I anointed him and prayed with him for a moment.

Next week is a Holy Day and the patronal feast of this parish: the Assumption. Masses will be at noon and 7:00 p.m. Let us pray for one another!

The Lord be with you!                             Fr. Kevin F. Lutz

GREATER COLUMBUS RIGHT TO LIFE SPIRITUS BANQUET….Join Greater Columbus Right to Life in welcoming the Rev Walter Hoye to Columbus. In a time where Religious Freedom, the sanctity of human life, and the family are under attack, Rev Hoye's message is a clarion call to our generation. When his California city made it illegal to minister to women outside the area abortion clinics, Rev Hoye silently held a sign saying, "Jesus Loves you and Your Baby."  He was subsequently arrested, convicted and jailed.  Hear his story at this event to benefit the work of Greater Columbus Right to Life. Contact Beth Vanderkooi at 614-203-1147 or beth@gcrtl.org or go online at www.gcrtl.org/spiritus to reserve your tickets today.  Tickets for Saint Mary Parishioners are available at a discounted rate of $20.
