2012-2013 RCIA

The topic of this week’s RCIA session is “The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.  The presenter is Father Franks. If you know anyone that is interested in learning about the Catholic faith; has been away from the church; has not been confirmed; then the Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) is for you. All are welcome. Ø  First Communion parental preparation meetings for children that will celebrate their 1st Communion on May 11, 2013 will be held on the following Sundays: Jan. 27, 2013; and Mar. 24, 2013.

Ø  Confirmation parental preparation meeting is scheduled for February 10, 2013.

All meetings will be held in the Atrium following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. These meetings are mandatory if you want your child to participate in these Holy Sacraments.



St. Mary will host youth and young adults from throughout the Diocese on Thurs. January 17 at 7:00 p.m. Our young adults in grades 9-12 are invited to join this dynamic group.

St. Charles: 8th Grade Scholarship Test.  St. Charles Preparatory School will offer its annual scholarship test to prospective students at 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, in the Robert C. Walter Student Commons. The test results are used to help determine who will receive academically based scholarships and grants offered by the school to its students in the 2013-2014 school year. The test is open to all 8th grade boys who are currently enrolled at any of the public, parochial, and private elementary or middle schools in Franklin or the other surrounding counties that comprise Central Ohio. Anyone interested in sitting for the St. Charles scholarship test must register by calling Laurie Berndt in the school office at 614-252-6714 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Clergy Who Cook returns to the Josephinum Jessing Center! Enjoy a taste of heavenly cuisine and help our future priests on Friday, February 1, 2013. Clergy of the diocese will prepare samples of their favorite dishes from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Guests vote for their favorite chef with cash donations. Cost is $40 per person; cash beverage bar. Bishop Campbell will be the celebrant at a Respect Life Mass on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad Street, Columbus.  On this day of the anniversary of the United States Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade, our diocese will join all of the dioceses of the United States in observing a Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children.  We hope you can come. 



A Rally for Life sponsored by Greater Columbus Right to Life will be held following the Mass at Noon at the Statehouse west plaza.  Many of those participating in the Mass will be walking to the Statehouse.



For those who plan to attend activities in Washington, DC, related to the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, please visit the U.S. Catholic Bishops’ National Prayer Vigil for Life website at  There are many groups from around the diocese planning on participating in the March for Life in Washington, DC, on January 25.  Please see the list of bus trips posted on the bulletin board at the rear of Church.  Seats are still available.  Please RSVP as soon as possible.   



The weekend of January 19 and 20 is a renewal weekend for membership in the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.  To join, please use your pre-printed collection envelope or mark you contribution according. Members of the Society receive the graces of 15,000 Masses celebrated each day by missionaries for its members – living or deceased. Mass is also celebrated daily for Society members at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome.


GALA 2013

Ø  A portion of the money raised at this year’s Gala & Auction will be used to help our school purchase 20 additional iPads to use in the classrooms. With the 15 iPads they already have, this will give the school a complete set, so teachers can use them for projects with an entire class. Each iPad costs $499. Please consider helping us directly underwrite the costs of providing these additional iPads for the school.
