The Catholic Church has long held October to be the month in which we prayerfully celebrate our firm belief that all human life is sacred. The Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Office reminds you that, as Pope John Paul II wrote in his 1995 Encyclical “The Gospel of Life”:

The family proclaims life when parents teach children to communicate openly, to value all life and to fulfill their God-given mission.

The family celebrates life through prayer, thanking God for the gift of life, and for each other.

The family serves life by promoting the welfare and well-being of its own members and the members of the greater “family of life.”

Almighty, eternal, just and merciful God, grant us in our misery that we may do for your sake alone what we know you want us to do, and always want what pleases you; so that, cleansed and enlightened interiorly and fired with the ardor of the Holy Spirit, we may be able to follow in the footsteps of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and so make our way to you.
