HOMECOMING FESTIVAL NEWS

Our 2012 Homecoming festival was a great success despite the brief rain showers we experienced this past weekend. A good time was had by all.

The Saturday 4:00 Mass was overflowing with friends and alumni that return each year to celebrate with us.

The Grand Raffle winners for this year’s festival are:

·    Katherine Condo-2nd place

A big thank you to all of those that worked so tirelessly to make this event successful. Special thanks to John LaMotte, who again headed this committee.

 

CHOIR PRACTIVE RESUMES

Both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. choirs will resume weekly practice sessions beginning the first week of September.

Ø  The 9:00 choir will practice each Wednesday beginning Sept. 5th at 6:30 p.m.

Ø  The 11:30 choir will practice eachTuesday beginning Sept. 4th at 6:00 p.m.

2012-2013 RCIA INTRODUCTORY COOK OUT…… is set for Wednesday, August 29th @ 6:30 p.m. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) will kick off the year in front of the Specht Center or in the Atrium if it rains.  If you are interested in joining the Catholic Church, are interested in serving as a sponsor, or are just interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith we hope you will join us.  All are welcome.  For more information please contact RCIA Directors Mike or Maureen Keebaugh.

BREAKFAST with the BISHOP

Catholic Social Services’ 20th annual Breakfast with the Bishop will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012, from 7:45 – 9:15 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom, 350 North High Street.

Bishop Campbell will share his thoughts on religion in today’s society.   Joining the Bishop will be Paul Pfeifer, senior associate justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio, who will share some reflections on this topic from a judicial perspective.

We encourage all parishioners to join the Bishop for breakfast and learn more about the impact you are helping Catholic Social Services make on our communities.

ST. MARY SCHOOL NEWS

Believe it or not, but a new school year is right around the corner. The school year will kick off with the staff attending noon Mass on August 22nd. The day will include an ice cream social beginning at 3:30 p.m. where parents and parishioners can meet the teaching staff, office staff and principal; it will wind up with the new parent meeting at 7:00 p.m.

The first day of school is Aug. 27th.

As we prepare for another school year please keep in your prayers our St. Mary school staff and administration along with the children that we will welcome back.

Are you ready for some football? St. Gabriel Catholic Radio AM 820 begins Friday high school football coverage on August 24th. Starting at 6 p.m. listen to coaches and players talk about the night's games during the Preview Show with Doug Lessells and Ryan Baker. Schools represented include the Columbus Catholic League schools, Fisher Catholic, Marion Catholic, and Newark Catholic.  At 7:15 p.m. tune-in to the featured CCL Game-of-the-Week with Randy Rhinehart and Mike LanzaCoverage is sponsored by the Mount Carmel Foundation and Bob Boyd Auto Family. Saturday, September 8:

7:15 p.m. - Schiller statue illumination ceremony.  The free program includes a concert by the Harmony Project community chorus, a reading of "The Ode to Joy" by Director of Actors' Theatre John Kuhn, lighting of the statue, and the playing of the final movement from Beethoven's 9th Symphony over a glockenspiel installed in the St. Mary's Church bell tower for this week-end.

Sunday, September 9:

Noon-1:30 p.m. - Bring a picnic or buy from food trucks. 

1:30 -3:15 p.m. - Experience living history vignettes on a variety of topics related to Schiller Park's history. 

3:30 p.m. - Enter the pie-baking contest and scavenger hunt.

4:15 p.m. - Join the "family photo" around the Schiller statue. 

4:30 - Dessert for the day is an ice cream social (with Jeni’s ice cream).  Everything on Sunday is free.
