ST. VINCENT de PAUL 5TH SUNDAYCOLLECTION

The 5th Sunday of each month throughout the year we ask for your donations to support St. Vincent de Paul. This organization reaches out to meet the needs of those in our community who are struggling in these difficult economic times. Please be generous. Use your preprinted envelopes for your gift or note your contribution accordingly.

 

REMINDER: ROBERT R. DOLDER SR. GOLF CLASSIC

The 4-S Club invites you to participate in our 2012 annual golf outing to support the only Catholic school on the south side of Columbus. This event is slated for September 16, 2012 at Foxfire Golf Club. Flyers with detailed information can be found at the rear of the Church.

 

2012-2013 RCIA

Please keep in mind that the Rite of Christian Initiation will kick off in late August or early September for those who are interested in learning more about their Catholic Faith; in joining the Catholic Church; or in serving as a sponsor. If you know of anyone that may be interested please have them contact the parish office for additional information.

 

FIRST FRIDAY

Next Friday, August 3rd is a First Friday. REMINDERS

 

SEEKING VOLUNTEERS for COFFEE AND DOUGHNUT

We are looking for volunteers to host/serve coffee and doughnuts between the 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses. This requires only a commitment of one Sunday every couple months. Father Wehrle High School All Class Reunion will be held on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Gatsby's in Gahanna located at 151 North Hamilton Road.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Bishop Hartley softball tryouts:  The 2013 Teams are forming now! Teams are coached by Bishop Hartley coaches and former Buckeyes Meghan Zuercher and Beth McAbier.  The final tryout will be held at Bishop Hartley High School on August 19th from 3:00-5:30 p.m. Girls born in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 are eligible to tryout. Any questions should be directed to Coach Zuercher at (614) 580-6960.

 

2012 HOMECOMING FESTIVAL-AUG. 10-11

We are less than two weeks away from our 86th annual Homecoming festival. Don’t forget to turn in your raffle tickets.

DIOCESAN COLLECTION FOR THE CHURCH IN LATIN AMERICA

Nest weekend, August 4-5, we will take up the collection for the Church in Latin America. Many unique challenges face the Church in that region. Your donation will fund evangelization and catechesis projects so vital to the Church in this part of the world. Please use your preprinted envelopes or mark your donation accordingly.

 

RECYCLE BINS

The recycle bins for newspapers and aluminum cans will be removed from our lot on August 1, 2012 in preparation for the festival.

 

2012 CATHOLIC WOMAN/YOUNG CATHOLIC WOMAN OF THE YEAR

The Columbus Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) is pleased to offer you the opportunity to recognize and nominate an outstanding Catholic woman from your parish or organization. The 2012 Catholic Woman/Young Catholic Woman of the Year awards banquet is scheduled for Sunday, August 19th at St. Charles Preparatory School from 5:00-9:00 p.m. This year we are excited to have local personality and Catholic Gail Hogan as our Master of Ceremonies! Each woman nominated receives a certificate and out of those nominated, one winner for Catholic Woman of the Year, and one winner for Young Catholic Woman of the Year will be selected by a panel and receive an award from Bishop Frederick F. FEAST DAYS FOR WEEK JULY 30TH

St.Peter Chrysologus…was Bishop of Ravenna from about AD 433 until his death. He is revered as a saint by the Roman Catholic Church and was declared a Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XIII in 1729.

St.Ignatius of Loyola…was a Spanish knight from a Basque noble family, hermit, priest since 1537, and theologian, who founded the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and was its first Superior General. Ignatius emerged as a religious leader during the Counter-Reformation. Loyola's devotion to the Catholic Church was characterized by unquestioning obedience to the Catholic Church's authority and hierarchy.

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori…was an Italian Catholic bishop, spiritual writer, scholastic philosopher and theologian, and founder of the Redemptorists, an influential religious congregation. He was canonized in 1839 by Pope Gregory XVI. Pope Pius IX proclaimed him a Doctor of the Church in 1871.

St.Eusebius of Vercelli…was a bishop and saint in Italy. Along with Athanasius, he affirmed the divinity of Jesus against Arianism.
