Central Ohio volunteers of all ages and backgrounds came together to help Catholic Social Services (CSS) on Saturday, May 19, 2012, for its Service Saturday event. Twice a year CSS organizes volunteers from various parishes to assist older and disabled Franklin County residents in need of help with small home repairs, house painting, yard work, and other projects

Service Saturday, in its 6th year, is open to Franklin County residents in need, that are over sixty, or disabled individuals. Most of the recipients live in low-income neighborhoods and have owned their homes for years.

There were a total of 176 volunteers that were dispatched to 34 separate locations throughout the county.

Several parishes, Goodwill of Columbus, Franklin County Senior Options, Catholic Social Services’ Senior Companion volunteers, and the CSS staff referred the people needing assistance.

The next Service Saturday will be October 13th. Watch your bulletin for additional information.

SISTERS OF CHARITY OF NAZARETHwill be here next weekend, July 21st and 22nd, to share SCN Family stories. Sister Barbara Joseph Lammers will speak at each of the weekend Masses on behalf of the SCN ministries which began in the United States in 1812. Through their ministry of healthcare, education and social service they carry the message of Christ’s love for those in need throughout the world.

A special (2nd) collection will be taken up to support the Sisters in their ministry to the victimized, oppressed and marginalized.
