2011-12 RCIA

The RCIA topic of discussion this week will be “The Sacrament of Confirmation/Gifts of the Holy Spirit”.  Andrew Pasternack will be the presenter. If you are interested in learning more about your Catholic faith please plan to attend any or all of these sessions.  All are welcome.

 

BINGO UPDATE

Our Sunday night bingo has been very successful the last few months, in fact, this past weekend was a record setting weekend since the smoking ban went into effect. Thank you to all of those that give of their time every Sunday evening. These funds go to the support of our parish and school.

 

JANUARY JORDAN CONFERENCE

The quarterly Jordon Conference for parents who wish to have a child baptized will be held on Tues. January 24, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the atrium. Please contact the parish office at 445-9668 or email Ann at ann@stmarygv.com to confirm your attendance.

 

1ST COMMUNION PREPARATION

Parental preparation meetings for children that will celebrate their 1st Communion on May 12, 2012 will be held on the following Sundays: Jan. 8, 2012; and Mar. 4, 2012. All meetings will be held in the atrium following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. JANUARY IS “POVERTY IN AMERICA AWARENESS MONTH”

Today, nearly 44 million Americans are living below the poverty line.  Many are our neighbors in our diocese.  To bring attention to this national crisis, the catholic campaign for human development (CCHD) designated January as “poverty in America awareness month.”  This month of observance, we devote our efforts to heightening the nation’s understanding of the scope of the problems of poverty and work to break the cycle.  For more information go to www.povertyusa.org or call the office for social concerns at (614) 241-2540.

 

CLERGY WHO COOK RETURNS TO THE JOSEPHINUM! 

Clergy Who Cook 2012 will be held at the Jessing Center at the Josephinum on Friday, January 27, from

7:00-10:00 p.m.  Clergy of the diocese prepare samples of their favorite dishes, guests vote with cash donations for the top chef!  The event is $35 per person; a cash bar will be available. Reservations and advance payment are required by January 13. Checks payable to the Friends of the Josephinum may be sent to FOJ Clergy Who Cook, 7625 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43235. Credit card payments may be made online at www.pcj.edu.  Questions? NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

 

PRAYERS FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY…. will be offered at a Cathedral Vespers Service led by Bishop Campbell on Tuesday, January 24th at 7:00 p.m.  Leaders and congregants from a number of local Christian Churches, ecclesial communities and other ecumenical organizations will be in attendance.  A light reception will follow in the undercroft of the Cathedral.  This Service is being organized by the Diocesan Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs.  Please plan to participate.

 

THE PROPAGATION of the FAITH: Next weekend, Jan.  14-15, 2012 has been designated by the Diocese of Columbus as a special collection weekend to support The Society for the Propagation of the Faith. Please use your preprinted envelopes or mark you donation accordingly.

 

RESPECT LIFE MASS–DAY OF PENANCE AND PRAYER

At 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012, Bishop Frederick Campbell will be celebrant at Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad Street, Columbus, in observance of the “day of penance for violations to the dignity of the human person committed through acts of abortion, and of prayer for the full restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life.”  This day of penance and prayer falls near the anniversary of the January 22, 1973, U.S. Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.  All are invited to attend.  For more information about the Church’s teaching on pro-life issues, visit the U.S. Bishops’ website at www.usccb.org/prolife.

A Rally for Life sponsored by Greater Columbus Right to Life will be held following the Mass at the Statehouse west plaza. Many of those participating in the Mass will be walking to the Statehouse.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY MASS AT HOLY ROSARY/ST. JOHN

Join us at Holy Rosary/St. John Church (660 South Ohio Avenue, Columbus) on Monday, January 16, 2012 at noon for our annual MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY MASS.  The guest speaker will be 10 TV anchor Jerry Revish.  Art by local artists (including HRSJ parishioners) will be featured.  Stop by our website at HRSJ.ORG where you can download music from the Gospel Choir and get information on all our events.

 

SPANISH CLASS FOR ADULTS: Join the exciting and enjoyable classes forming at Christ the King Church and at PDHC in Worthington. Classes are held once a week
