2011-12 RCIA

The topic of this week’s RCIA session is “The History of the Church” The presenter will be Father Kevin Lutz. If you are interested in being a sponsor for one of our candidates or catechumens there is an open invitation for you to attend an RCIA class. All are welcome.

 

CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN for HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

Next weekend, Nov. 19-20, 2011, we will take up the special collection for the Catholic campaign for Human Development. CCHD was founded by the U.S. bishops more than 40 years ago and has funded community groups that have created lasting change. Please use your preprinted envelopes or mark your donation “Human Development”.

 

NURSERY

In an effort to allow our younger parents to enhance their worship experience, we are working on plans to provide a nursery during the 11:30 a.m. Mass. If you are interested in assisting one week each month, please email Deacon Roger Minner at rjminner@sbcglobal.net.  These hours will count toward service requirements for high school students.

 

1ST COMMUNION PREPARATION

Parental preparation meetings for children that will celebrate their 1st Communion on May 12, 2012 will be held on the following Sundays: Nov.13, 2011; Jan. 8, 2012; and Mar. 4, 2012. All meetings will be held in the atrium following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. This meeting will be mandatory if you want your child to participate in in this special and holy occasion.

THE FUTURE OF K-12 CATHOLIC EDUCATION….will be the topic of an evening program sponsored by the Univ. of Notre Dame and its local alumni association.  “Who will save Catholic Schools?” is part of the Hesburgh Lecture series. Father Ronald Nuzzi, a Notre Dame Professor, will lead the presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at St. Andrew Parish Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m.

 

THE MARRIAGE AND FAMILY LIFE OFFICE’S…..

booklet of prayers, rituals, ideas and activities for the Advent and Christmas seasons, “Advent and Christmas Traditions: Keeping the Seasons Holy,” is a valuable tool in making your celebration of these liturgical seasons more meaningful for you and your family. IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR - CHRISTMAS TREE SALE

With Thanksgiving comes the delivery of all the Christmas trees. Rich Finn will have the volunteer signup sheets at the back of the Church after each of the Masses this weekend and next weekend. Volunteers are needed to staff the lot and stand.  All hours worked count towards school requirements.  Support your parish school and plan to help for a few hours.

 

YOU ARE INVITED

Men's Night Out: Wednesday, Nov. 23rd in St. Mary Gym from 6:00 p.m.-Midnight.  Food, beer, soft drinks and snacks all for $15.  Card games, raffles, and a 50/50 will be held.  All men in the community are invited and welcome. This event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

 

IF YOU CAN READ, YOU CAN HELP OTHERS

The Dominican Learning Center (DLC) or your local library is in need of volunteers to tutor adult students, around your own schedule, one on one for one hour per week in reading, writing, math or conversation. Volunteers need to be over age 18 and hold a high school diploma. A tutor training workshop will be held at the DLC, 1111 E. Stewart Ave. on Saturday, December 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Books are provided free to tutors. Please call Sr. Shawn Fitzpatrick at (614) 444-7330 Ext. 3 to sign up for the workshop day of your choice.

SOUTH SIDE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES FOOD PANTRY…will wrap up their 3-week campaign this weekend (see insert).  Food items are always welcome and may be dropped off at any time. Please be generous.

 

ADOPT A FAMILY UPDATE

Please check the insert in your bulletin for volunteer opportunities that will support our Adopt –a-family campaign. The complete timeline of activities will be listed on this insert. We will need volunteers to assist with making the gift ornaments on Friday, November 18th at 5:30 in the Atrium. We will provide pizza and light refreshments for volunteers. We need your used Christmas cards, please drop them off at the back of church in the box provided. We will use these to create the gift ornaments for the tree.

    

MARK YOUR CALENDAR:

Ø  December 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., the annual St. Mary bell choir/Maennerchor concert is scheduled as part of the German Village Lights tour, which will begin later that day.

Ø  December 8, 2011, the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This is a holy day of obligation for Catholics; Mass will be celebrated at 8:20 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Ø  The annual St. Mary Gala to benefit our school will be held on Sat. Jan. 28. We would love your help! If you'd like to serve on a planning committee, please contact Julie Graham-Price at 444-5409

Ø  St. Leo organ dedication will be held on January 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Watch the bulletin for further information.

HEALTH CARE FOR THE UNINSURED

Mount Carmel Mobile Coach provides free healthcare for the uninsured. Their mobile unit is at St. Ladislas the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The next visit will be November 18th.  All uninsured are welcome, so please tell anyone who may need their services to stop by 277 Reeb Ave. Contact Carmen at 443-2828 x204 with any questions.

Please submit your order form with payment to the school office or to the parish office. Checks should be made payable to Saint Mary Preschool.
