2011-12 RCIA

The topic of this week’s RCIA session is “Prayer” The presenter will be Mike Keebaugh. A retreat for the Candidates and Catechumens will be held on November 11-12 culminating in attendance at the 4:00 Mass on Nov. 12th where the “Rite of Acceptance” will be celebrated. If you are interested in being a sponsor for one of our candidates or catechumens there is an open invitation for you to attend an RCIA class. All are welcome.



Ř  Cemetery Sunday Prayer Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 6th, at St. Joseph, Resurrection, Holy Cross and Mt. Calvary Cemeteries.



     Christmas Bazaar: The Ladies of the Ancient Order of Hybernians will hold its’ annual Christmas bazaar on November 12, 2011 in the St. Mary school gym from 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.


     St. Mary School invites you to come and sing with them at the St. Martin Veteran’s Day celebration on November 11th from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. They will walk through the streets of German Village collecting cash and non-perishable food items for the food pantry. 


     The annual St. Mary Gala to benefit our school will be held on Sat. Jan. 28. We would love your help! If you'd like to serve on a planning committee, please contact Julie Graham-Price at 444-5409

THE FUTURE OF K-12 CATHOLIC EDUCATION….will be the topic of an evening program sponsored by the Univ. of Notre Dame and its local alumni association.  “Who will save Catholic Schools?” is part of the Hesburgh Lecture series. Father Ronald Nuzzi, a Notre Dame Professor, will lead the presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011 at St. Andrew Parish Hall beginning at 7:00 p.m.

SOUTH SIDE COMMUNITY MINISTRIES FOOD PANTRY (of which St. Mary’s is one of the founders) will collect nonperishable food items throughout the week. You may drop off your food item in the vestibule. This campaign will wrap up next weekend, Sunday, November 13th, with a 2nd collection being taken at the end of each Mass.

Men's Night Out: Wed., Nov. 23rd in St. Mary Gym from 6:00 p.m.-Midnight.  Food, beer, soft drinks and snacks all for $15.  Card games, raffles, and a 50/50 will be held.  All men in the community are invited and welcome.

With Thanksgiving comes the delivery of all the Christmas trees. Rich Finn will have the volunteer signup sheets at the back of the Church after each of the Masses on the following days:  Nov. 12 - 13 and 19 - 20. Volunteers are needed to staff the lot and stand.  All hours worked count towards school requirements.  Support your parish school and plan to help for a few hours.



On November 11th as we commemorate Veterans Day by recalling the sacrifices of our service men and women, we are mindful of those currently serving our country, both here and overseas. Praying for their safe return to their friends and loved ones, we lift them up: Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Christ our Lord. Amen.



The Dominican Learning Center (DLC) or your local library is in need of volunteers to tutor adult students, around your own schedule, one on one for one hour per week in reading, writing, math or conversation. Volunteers need to be over age 18 and hold a high school diploma. Tutor training workshops will be held at the DLC, 1111 E. Stewart Ave. on Saturday, November 12, and December 10 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Books are provided free to tutors. Please call Sr. Shawn Fitzpatrick at (614) 444-7330 Ext. 3 to sign up for the workshop day of your choice. 



Parental preparation meetings for children that will celebrate their 1st Communion on May 12, 2012 will be held on the following Sundays: Nov.13, 2011; Jan. 8, 2012; and Mar. 4, 2012. All meetings will be held in the atrium following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. This meeting will be mandatory if you want your child to participate in in this special and holy occasion.


4-S CLUB LADIES AUXILIARY….will be preparing and serving a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, including pumpkin pie for desert on Nov. 13th from noon until 3:00 p.m. The cost is $8.00 per person; carry out is available.

ST. GABRIEL CATHOLIC RADIO… is pleased to present Putting on the New Man: The New Evangelization hosted by Father James Wehner, Rector of the Pontifical College Josephinum. Putting on the New Man is a fast-paced half-hour program that will help men grow in virtue and become new men in Christ.  The show airs every Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. on 1580 AM.
