We are closing in on our parish goal for our 2011 BAA Appeal! To date we have received a total pledged of $43,096, which is still shy of our goal of $50,436. Thanks to everyone who has made a pledge! There is still less than 14% participation among registered families in the parish. It is not too late, so if you have not yet done so, please prayerfully consider making a pledge to this annual appeal.
The parish office will be closed on Monday, July 4th in celebration of the birth of our nation. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, July 5th. May God continue to bless our nation.

WESTERN KNIGHTS FOOTBALL
Western Knights football is a diocesan team comprised of boys that attend Trinity Catholic School, St. Mary Magdalene and St. Mary German Village or attend PSR in Bishop Ready feeder parishes. Boys who are entering 4th through 8th grade next school year are welcome to participate. A fact sheet about the program and the interest form are located on the Trinity Catholic School website http://trinity.cdeducation.org/ under the Activities link. For further information please contact varsity coaches Joe Lombardi 279-3011 or Rick Dulin
The St. Mary Choirs for both 9:00 and 11:30 will continue to lead the musical portion of our weekend masses during the summer. We will only have an occasional rehearsal during the summer months. Both choirs welcome anyone who wants to sing with the choir, just come one hour before Mass to help warm-up your voice. For more information, please contact Amanda Walker at

Due to unforeseen circumstances we are losing 2 or 3 of the coffee and doughnut teams. We REALLY need some additional volunteers. It only requires one Sunday about every two months, for less than two hours. Coffee and doughnuts have been a tradition here at St. Mary for almost 20 years and we want to continue this tradition. PLEASE CONSIDER HELPING. Contact Marge Smigelski at 871-8142. We would be remiss if we didn’t take this opportunity to thank Marge and Dave for their time and effort in managing the coffee and doughnut Sundays.
The JOIN staff wishes to thank the parishioners of St. Mary who donated to the collection on Ash Wednesday. This collection will aid the JOIN staff in the mission of caring for the emergency needs of the poor and vulnerable of Columbus and the surrounding counties. As reported earlier this collection resulted in a donation to JOIN in the amount of $2,615.13.
I am thrilled to be able to announce that Father Don Franks has been assigned to serve as the next pastor of St. Mary Church. I have known Father Franks since he was pastor of St. Mary Church in Chillicothe, and so not only has he been my own family’s pastor, he played an important part in God’s calling me to the priesthood. He has a great love for Catholic Schools and there are currently four men from his parish studying for the priesthood for the Diocese of Columbus. He comes to St. Mary German Village from St. Mary, Lancaster. Indeed, in a beautiful twist of God’s providence both of his pastorates have been in parishes under the patronage of our Blessed Mother. Because several other priests’ moves have had to be coordinated, his assignment to St. Mary Church will not begin until August 23rd, but he will be participating during the summer in various planning efforts looking toward the next church and school year.
I am also very happy to announce that following an extensive process Mrs. Luna Alsharaiha will begin in the Role of St. Mary School Principal beginning July 1, 2011 (even though she has already met with Sister Regina). She comes to St. Mary from St. Michael School, where she has taught 7th and 8th grade math and religion for eight years, in addition to her being very active in PSR and liturgical ministries at St. Brigid of Kildare Church in Dublin. She brings to our community many talents and a strong passion to lead our Catholic School that will serve to continue and even strengthen St. Mary School’s tradition of excellence in service to our students. I wish to again express my appreciation to Sister Regina for her heroic service to St. Mary School these last several years. Thanks also for the members of the search committee, whose thoughtful participation and insights were of great assistance to me in making this important decision.
Lastly, I have the sad task of announcing that Fr. Sylvester Onyeachonam will be moving from St. Mary to Christ the King Church. This move will enable Fr. Sylvester to remain close to Children’s Hospital while providing his invaluable assistance Fr. David Schalk in his first pastoral assignment at Christ the King. Words cannot describe what a blessing Fr. Sylvester has been to St. Mary Church during this last year and I am sad to be losing his wonderful presence here at St. Mary. Father Sylvester will remain at St. Mary Church at least through the end of July.
Let us entrust Fr. Franks, Mrs. Alsharaiha and Fr. Sylvester to the intercession and protection of our Blessed Mother.
