This celebration may result in a longer than normal Mass, however, Sister Theresa extends an open invitation to all parishioners to join her on this special day.

NEWS FROM ST.
Right to Read Week, an annual Ohio celebration of books and children and reading, will be held at St. Mary School May 16-20. Our reading theme this year has been "Take FLIGHT with READING "and we invite our parishioners to join us on several occasions throughout the week:
Our school library's 18th annual Family Cake Decorating Contest is on Monday, May 16. All cakes will be decorated on a literary theme or on our "Flight" theme! This delicious fundraiser is a highlight of the school year, and we would love our parishioners to stop by and view all the cakes, perhaps bid on a cake, and certainly be amazed by the literary creations our school families will submit. Please join us! Cakes will be on display 9:00 until 2:30 in the school gym. Parishioners who wish to submit a cake for the contest are welcome to do so; all cakes must be brought to the school no later than 8:30 am. Contact Librarian Annie Ruefle at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
St. Mary Library invites everyone to our annual Family Reading Festival on Friday, May 20th, from 5:30-8:00 pm. Come see why our school is recognized for its literary and reading programs. Our students have been exploring our FLIGHT theme all year long, and the entire school will be open, with displays in every classroom, including a life size replica of the 1911 Wright Flyer!
Job opening: There will be a job opening in the St. Mary School cafeteria beginning with the opening of school in August 2011. If interested please contact Roseanne Hanson at 444-8994, ext. 130. This position

SISTER REGINA RETIREMENT
Sister Regina Snyder announced this week that she will be retiring as principal of St. Mary School. The following is a note that she asked to be communicated to the St. Mary Parish: When I came to St. Mary School and Parish I was expecting to be coming out of retirement for only five months and have ended up staying five years. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work here with you, your children, and the very creative staff of dedicated teachers here at St. Mary School. I had spoken with Father Thomas about this in February. But with Father Thomas’ increasing illness and absence, I felt I needed to re-evaluate my decision. In consultation with my Provincial Minister and friends I have made the decision to re-retire. This tops off 40 years in Catholic education ministry as a teacher and then administrator. My leaving will provide the new Pastor the opportunity to choose his own staff for this ministry of the parish, and me a chance to enjoy retirement once again.
“God Will Provide” is the motto of my religious community. With that in mind I leave St. Mary confident that I have given what I was given to share and with the help of many people kept the school on solid footing into the future.
For myself, I am sure there will be many opportunities to serve in and about Columbus. I continue to hold all of you in my prayers and thoughts; I ask that you do the same for me. My last day will be near the end of June. God bless you.
A NOTE FROM FR. SHAWN
In light of Sister Regina’s retirement as principal of St. Mary School, I wish to express my great appreciation for her most generous service to St. Mary School and the larger parish over these last five years. I had the privilege of working with Sister Regina when she was principal of St. Cecilia School where I was first assigned as a priest. I consider it a particular blessing from God to have been allowed to serve with her again (albeit rather briefly!). As I communicated to her when she retired from St. Cecilia, I regard her as a true disciple of St. Francis of Assisi, one who is a true instrument of peace and goodness. In the remaining weeks of her tenure, let’s all extend to her in acts of appreciation for her service St. Francis’ own greeting: Pax et Bonum.
Looking forward, we will need to search for a new principal. I have been in communication with the Diocesan Office of Catholic Schools. They have posted the position of principal for St. Mary School and will be receiving applications until May 27th, after which a list of candidates will be presented to the parish. I intend to formulate a committee to participate in the interviewing and selection process, including representatives from the school staff, the finance council, office staff and parish clergy. It is also my hope that by the time interviews are taking place in June, the newly named Pastor would participate in and perhaps further refine the process.
Let us each commit to keeping the selection of a new principal in all of our prayers.
In Christ, Fr. Shawn
