NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS

NEWS FROM ST. MARY SCHOOL

Right to Read Week, an annual Ohio celebration of books and children and reading, will be held at St. Mary School May 16-20.  Our reading theme this year has been "Take FLIGHT with READING "and we invite our parishioners to join us on several occasions throughout the week:

Our school library's 18th annual Family Cake Decorating Contest is on Monday, May 16. All cakes will be decorated on a literary theme or on our "Flight" theme! This delicious fundraiser is a highlight of the school year, and we would love our parishioners to stop by and view all the cakes, perhaps bid on a cake, and certainly be amazed by the literary creations our school families will submit. Please join us! Cakes will be on display all day (9:00 until 2:30) in the school gym. Parishioners who wish to submit a cake for the contest are welcome to do so; all cakes must be brought to the school no later than 8:30 am. Contact Librarian Annie Ruefle at aruefle@cdeducation.org for more information.

St. Mary Library invites everyone to our annual Family Reading Festival on Friday, May 20th, from 5:30-8:00 pm.  Come see why our school is recognized for its literary and reading programs. Our students have been exploring our FLIGHT theme all year long, and the entire school will be open, with displays in every classroom, including a life size replica of the 1911 Wright Flyer!

There will be a part time job opening in the St. Mary School cafeteria beginning with the opening of school in August 2011. If interested please contact Roseanne Hanson at 444-8994, ext. 130.

YOUTH GROUP FUND RAISER TO HONOR FR. THOMAS….will be held on Saturday, May 14th during the Village Valuables Sale from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The youth group will sponsor the food stand with all the proceeds to be used to purchase a statue and plaque in memory of Father Thomas. Volunteers are needed. Please come support our youth group in their effort to honor Father.

VINO et VERITAS

This weekend is Mother's Day. What a wonderful time for Young Adult Catholics to focus on Our Blessed Mother, Mary. Please join us Thursday, May 12th, as we learn more about Our Blessed Mother, Mary.  We meet the second Thursday of every month for a wine tasting and presentation starting at 7:00 p.m. at Planks on Parsons. Watch the bulletin for updates on the monthly topic.

SPECIAL THANKS FROM the THOMAS FAMILY

The family of Father Ted Thomas would like to thank the people of St Mary parish for the food provided to the family both Wednesday and Thursday and all the people who served and cleaned up.

We are especially grateful and touched by all the stories and memories that parishioners shared with us about special moments with Father Ted.

Thanks, too, for all the flowers that decorated the altar.

We’d like to say a special thank you to Bishop Campbell and Father Corcoran for their support and for reaching out to the family and making the funeral service unforgettable and blessed.

We very much appreciated the many priests and deacons who con-celebrated the funeral mass, we could see that Father Ted was loved by all.          The Thomas family

A MOTHER’S DAY PRAYER

May God bless all mothers – expectant and birth mothers, adoptive mothers, step-mothers, foster mothers, grandmothers, and godmothers – that they continue to be generous in their love, strong in their guidance, and persevering in their compassion and forgiveness.   Amen

A MESSAGE FROM FATHER CORCORAN

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the parish administrator pro-tem for St. Mary, St. Ladislas and Corpus Christi parishes. It is a particular joy to be returning to St. Mary as I have fond memories of the summer I spent as a seminarian in 1996.

As the title indicates, my appointment as administrator pro-tem is a temporary assignment that will last until a new pastor is named by Bishop Campbell, which will likely happen at the normal time of priest assignments in July.  I look forward to being available to parishioners and staff as needed, while the day to day operations should continue to function as they have under Fr. Thomas’ administration.

In the meantime, it is my goal and intention to ensure a smooth transition for whomever might be so blessed to be assigned as pastor of St. Mary Church.

Be assured of my prayers for you as I thank God for the opportunity to be reunited with the St. Mary Community.

Yours in Christ,

Father Shawn D. Corcoran
