SERVICE SATURDAY/MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY

Looking for a fun volunteer opportunity? If so, consider joining Catholic Social Services for its fifth annual Service Saturday on May 21, 2011. Beginning at 9:00 a.m., volunteers will help seniors and disabled individuals in Franklin County who need assistance with a minor home repair, painting, yard work, or special projects. If interested or you know someone in need of help, please call Tara Cox at 614-857-1238 or email  tcox@colscss.org  It is really an enjoyable and gratifying day for both the seniors and the volunteers!

ST MARY SCHOOL NEWS

St. Mary School is renting tables for the annual Village Valuable Sale on Saturday, May 14, 2011. Tables are on the front lawn of the school --a prime location!  Rent a table (or two) -- the profit is all yours!  Table rental: $25.00; each additional table is $20.  Please call the school library @ 443-2432 or email Ms. Ruefle at aruefle@cdeducation.org to secure your tables.

Former pastor Rev. Michael B. Watson invites St. Mary parishioners to join him in celebrating the 25th anniversary of his ordination to the Priesthood on Sunday, May 15, at St. Andrew Church, 1899 McCoy Road. SENIOR CITIZENS DAY CELEBRATION IS MAY 17

The 34th annual diocesan Senior Citizens Day Celebration will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at St. Elizabeth Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus.  Bishop Frederick F. Campbell will celebrate Mass at 10:30 a.m.  Mass will be followed by a luncheon.  Registration for the celebration is $15.  To register, please send a check payable to the Office for Social Concerns, Catholic Diocese of Columbus, 197 E. 2nd ANNUAL METRO FIVE-O: WELLNESS IN THE PARK

REMINDER

Spring and summer street cleaning throughout German Village began in April. Streets are cleaned on the west side of Third Street every 2nd Tuesday of the month and on the east side of Third Street every 2nd Wednesday from April to October between the hours of 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. Parking violations are strictly enforced during those times.

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY SERVICES

The Polish Community with Father Eugene Lienowski will conduct a Divine Mercy Service at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday here at St. Mary. Confessions will be heard prior to the service at 2:15 p.m. A movie, Nine Days Which Changed the World, will follow the service. All are welcome.

In addition, Divine Mercy services will be held at the following churches: Holy Family, Sacred Heart, Community of Holy Rosary & St. John, St. Catharine, St. Timothy, St. Andrew, St. Michael, and St. Joan of Arc.

 

CATHOLIC CEMETERIES OF COLUMBUS

Offices at St. Joseph, Resurrection, and Holy Cross Cemeteries will be open on Sundays May 8, 15 & 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Family Service Advisors will be available to assist families with pre-need arrangements and answer questions.

 

ST. LEO CONCERT

The Garden, a concert by the magpie consort will be held at St. Leo on Saturday, May 14th at 8:00 p.m.  A celebration of birds, flowers, and springtime, with guests Eugene Braig (guitar), Jeff White (percussion) and Meghan Western (dancer).  Admission is free (suggested donation $10).

 

SPECIAL COLLECTION

Next weekend, May 7-8, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, where great needs remain. This collection provides support for basic pastoral programs and makes scholarships available for students studying to serve their local church. Please use your preprinted envelopes or mark you donation accordingly.

 

RIGHT TO READ WEEK at ST. MARY SCHOOL

St. Mary School, Right to Read Week is scheduled for the week of May 16th. The week will kick off with the annual family cake decorating contest. Various activities and special events are scheduled for each day of the week.

To all those who worked so hard this week in preparation for the funeral of our beloved Father Thomas, he would have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love.
