DATES TO REMEMER

ü   The 5th annual St. Mary Golf Outing is scheduled for Sunday, September 19, 2010. This event will be held at Foxfire Golf Club, Lockbourne, OH. All proceeds benefit St. Mary School tuition assistance fund and is sponsored by the 4-S Club.

ü   Catholic Social Services and St. Mary have joined together for the fifth annual Service Saturday to be held on Oct. 16, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. If you are interested in volunteering please call Ann at 445-9668 or email ann@stmarygv.com

ü   Columbus Marathon is scheduled for Oct. 17, 2010.

ü   THE COLUMBUS CATHOLIC WOMEN’S CONFERENCE in collaboration with the St. Andrew’s Women’s Club is proud to announce the first Columbus Catholic Women’s Breakfast, Sept. 25, 2010 at St. Andrew Church, 1899 McCoy Rd. Mass begins at 9:00 a.m. and a catered breakfast will follow in Nugent Hall. SEMINARIAN S FROM JOSEPHINUM

Again this year we will be blessed to have two seminarians that will visit our home bound parishioners. Andrew Wellmann and Jordan Willard will take Holy Communion to those in our parish family that cannot get to mass on a regular basis. If you know of anyone that lives in the immediate area that would like to be added to the visitation list please contact the parish office at 445-9668 at your earliest convenience. The first round of visits will begin on September 16th.

REMINDERS

 

RETREAT FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED…. at St. Therese’s Retreat Center, 5277 E. Broad Street, Columbus, on Thurs., Sept. 30th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. In these difficult economic times, many individuals and families struggle with the effects of layoffs and unemployment.  This retreat is intended to provide a space for people who have recently lost their jobs or suffer from the current economic crisis to come together and know Gods’ loving presence and hear about practical strategies for new employment and connections that can be of assistance to them.  There is no cost for the retreat; a simple lunch that will be served. CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Registration of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd begins this week for St. Mary’s, Corpus Christi, and St. Ladislas.  This program is held weekly at St. Ladislas parish and is for all children not enrolled in our school in need of religious formation and instruction.  Children who attended the atrium program regularly during the 2009-2010 school year will receive registration forms via the U.S Mail. If you have moved, or are new, please find registration forms in the back of church. The deadline for registration is Sunday Sept. 26.    Children ages 3 through high school are invited to participate.  Orientation for new children will take place on October 3, 2010 from 9:30 to10:30. Returning children will begin on Sunday October 10, 2010 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. For more information call the Office of Religious Formation at 443-2828 ext. 203. 

 

ST. MARY SCHOOL – SPAGHETTI DINNER

St. Mary School Library invites you to its 17th annual spaghetti dinner on Friday, September 24th from 4:00-7:30. Dinners include all-you-can-eat-spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and drink. You may eat in or take out.

Adults: $7.00 /children: $3.00 /Senior citizens: $5.00 /High school students: $5.00.  Also at the dinner: a Book Fair and raffles. You don’t want to miss this wonderful way to “pasta” time with the St. Mary community!

 

WALK A MILE IN MY SHOES

The Diocese of Columbus Society of Saint Vincent dePaul (SVDP) will participate in the National SVDP Friends of the Poor Walk on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Whitehall Community Park at 402 N. Hamilton Road. Check in at 8:45 a.m., walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Register online until September 25th at www.svdpfriendsofthepoorwalk.org (Whitehall walk), or register on the day of the walk.  Contact Pat Summers at SVDP office 614-221-3554 for more information.

FATHER THOMAS UPDATE

Father had surgery this past Thursday morning and is now beginning the recovery process. Please address cards or notes for Father to the parish office until further notice. Visits and calls are prohibited by Father’s team of doctors for at least a week. We will keep you advised of his status. Please continue to keep him in your prayers. 

 

 

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL COLLECTION

Your generous contributions to our 5th Sunday St. Vincent de Paul collection resulted in a total donation of $1,173.00.

 MAGPIES ARE RETURNING TO ST. LEO CHURCH…

on Saturday, September 25, 2010, at 8:00 p.m.

The Magpies are joined by the lively Jeff White (percussion) and the excellent Nancy Kangas (spoken word) for this program. Ben Wiant will be at the piano for the Zigeunerlieder (gypsy songs) by Brahms. The performance takes place in the beautiful St Leo Church.

RCIA : the meeting this week will be geared to an overview and an informational session. It is not too late to join this program if you are interested in learning more about the Catholic faith.

 

WEEKDAY CHANGE IN MASS TIMES

Due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict we will need to revise our daily mass times beginning next week, Monday, September 13th. The daily mass schedule will be as follows:

v MONDAY AND FRIDAY masses will be held at noon.

v TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY masses will be at 5:30 p.m.

Father Sylvester will celebrate daily masses until Father Thomas’s return. This schedule will remain in effect until further notice.

v  The weekly school mass will continue to be held each Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. with Father Damico as the celebrant.
