CHURCH ENHANCEMENTS

Due to your generosity through the Bells of St. Mary’s campaign, we are able to make improvements in our beloved Church.  Check out the new altar platforms under Mary and Joseph!  In 1936, the side altar of Mary and Joseph were erected.  At that time, linoleum tile was in vogue with a subfloor under the tile.  There would have been no treads and bull nosing on the platform as it was designed for tile.  During the 1980’s renovation, they simply carpeted over the platforms with alterations made to the shape and look of the profile. We’ve arrived at the following conclusion  as we prepare to make decisions related to flooring under the altar in the sanctuary, that we should remove carpet from the platforms and renovate them in a way so that they would  look like they always belonged, matching the beautiful woodwork throughout St. Mary’s Church. In this effort, we reviewed historic pictures, figured out what had been altered for carpeting, and renovated.  I think you’ll agree that they look beautiful and appropriate to the Church!  I can tell you that St. Joseph was looking over the carpenters shoulders.  In the near future, we will be looking to remove the carpet under the tabernacle and build a suitable platform that matches the platforms of Mary and Joseph.  If you are able to donate (and are not currently giving to our Bells of St. Mary’s campaign) towards beautifying our parish, we would be most grateful.

CATECHESIS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD

Registration of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd begins this week for St. Mary’s, Corpus Christi, and St. Ladislas.  This program is held weekly at St. Ladislas parish and is for all children not enrolled in our school in need of religious formation and instruction.  Children who attended the atrium program regularly during the 2009-2010 school year will receive registration forms via the U.S Mail. If you have moved, or are new, please find registration forms in the back of church. The deadline for registration is Sunday Sept. 26.    Children ages 3 through high school are invited to participate.  Orientation for new children will take place on October 3, 2010 from 9:30 to10:30. Returning children will begin on Sunday October 10, 2010 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. For more information call the Office of Religious Formation at 443-2828 ext. 203.
