RCIA – 2009 – 2010

Our Elect have come together over the past 8 months to study and embrace the teachings of the Church. They will be welcomed into full communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. Please keep them in your prayers.  



§    The weekly school mass usually held on Wed. will be held on Tuesday this week.

§    There will be no coffee and doughnuts or bingo on Easter Sunday.

§    Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday do not have masses at their usual time due to the special nature of Holy Week.

The ladies of the Young at Heart group are planning a trip to the La Comedia dinner theatre in Springboro, OH on May 20th to see “Church Basement Ladies”. This outing is being arranged through the Dodge Recreation Center. The cost is $59.00 which includes; the bus fare, lunch and tickets to the play. The OTTERBEIN STUDENTS for LIFE…. are pleased to welcome Dr. Alveda King, niece of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to their campus at 7 p.m. on Thurs., April 8, 2010. Dr. King, founder of King for America and director of African American outreach at Priests for Life, will give a talk entitled, “Keeping the Dream Alive,” in which she will discuss how the pro-life movement is a continuation of the civil rights movement. The event will be held at the Rike Center at Otterbein College, located at 180 Center St. in Westerville, and is free and open to the public. Baby supply donations (diapers, wipes, etc.) to the Otterbein Students for Life’s annual diaper drive for Pregnancy Decision Health Centers will be accepted at the talk. The SERRA CLUB of NORTH COLUMBUS  Girls Life Awareness Youth Luncheon (LAYL) will be held on Tuesday, April 20th at Jessing Center at the Pontifical College Josephinum at 11:45 a.m. Women of high-school age are encouraged to attend.  There is no charge for this event. Sister Maria Elena, Mother Superior of the Missionary Servants of the Word, who is currently serving in the Columbus Diocese at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish will speak about discerning a vocation. A tour of the Josephinum will be offered after the luncheon. Youth interested in attending should reply to their Catholic school principal’s office or Youth Minister before Easter vacation. Adults and chaperones are welcome to attend and should RSVP to Ellyn Dekker at 614-488-3773 by April 12th.

YOUNG ADULT CONFERENCE                                                Register now for The Young Adult Conference hosted by the Diocese of Columbus for young adults and young professionals ages 18-39.  ST. MARY SCHOOL ADVISORY BOARD is accepting nominations for elected positions which expire this June. The SAB meets once a month to discuss issues associated with St. Mary Elementary. Elected members will serve a term of three years. If you are interested and would like to be on the ballot, please contact SAB President Nichole Robinson at

DIOCESE of COLUMBUS Haitian Relief Collection

A special collection taken up by the parishes of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Columbus to support the Haitian earthquake relief efforts of Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has yielded more than $644,000. In conjunction with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ response to the devastating January 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti, Bishop Frederick F. Campbell asked Catholics of the Diocese to respond generously to a special collection the weekend of Jan. 16- 17.  

“I thank the faithful of our diocese for their compassionate and generous response to the special collection for the purpose of providing for our brothers and sisters who were victimized by the earthquake in Haiti,” said Bishop Campbell.  “Your financial and spiritual support is a blessing to the people and Church in Haiti.”
