An eight-week workshop for those going through the divorce process will begin Thursday, October 2 from 7-9 PM at the Catholic Center, 197 East Gay Street, Columbus. The fee is $40; scholarships are available. For additional information call the Marriage and Family Life Office at 614/241-2560.

OUR GUARDIAN ANGELS…….the Marriage and Family Life Office reminds you that the Feast of the Guardian Angels is commemorated on October 2. Angels abound in Scripture. There they display God’s generous care, comfort and healing. While belief in guardian angels is not at the level of dogma, St. Basil says with confidence, “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life” (CCC, #336). Angels serve to demonstrate—and exemplify—the wonderful workings of God in our lives. Angel of God, my Guardian dear, To whom God's love commits me here, Ever this day be at my side, To light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen.

LIFE CHAIN 2008 – Life Chain is a one hour “prayer chain” in witness to an end of abortion in our nation.  At 4:15 p.m. on Tues. Oct. 7th people will gather at the McKinley Monument on the statehouse grounds where you can choose an 18 x 22 inch sign with a pro-life message on it which you can hold during this silent, prayerful protest.  Our silent one-hour witness begins at 4:30.  Several prayers are on the reverse side of the signs which can be spoken silently during the one-hour witness.  All ages are encouraged and welcome to attend.  “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap the harvest if we do not give up.”  Galatians 6:9.

Blessing of the Animals
To celebrate the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of Animals, S.M.A.C. - St. Mary Adult Catholics  will be hosting an animal blessing on the (front) rectory lawn at St. Mary Catholic Church.  The Blessing will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2008, at 10:30 am.  Members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend!   Treats will be provided for our four-legged friends.  This event is free and open to the public, but anyone wishing to make a donation can do so; the proceeds will support a pet-friendly local charity.  For more information contact:

Special thanks go out to Bob Dolder, the 4 S Club, and all the volunteers who helped with the golf outing last Sunday.  Beautiful weather and a great spirit enlivened the whole day.

The SSCM Food Pantry got a wonderful response the weekend they took up a collection at the doors of our church after mass last month.  St. Mary’s parishioners contributed just over $1500 to help feed people in the south side.  On some Tuesday mornings, a truckload of food is delivered to the pantry from the mid-Ohio Food Bank.  If you can help stock the shelves, please call Father Thomas to volunteer.  There are both light and heavy duties.  The Food Pantry is open the 2nd to the last Saturday each month from 12:00 to 1:30.
