R.C.I.A.

It is not too late to join Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults.  Come this Wednesday for an informational meeting and a presentation on Conversion to the meeting room in the Burkley Center (located past the restrooms).  The class is from 7:00-8:30pm.  RCIA is a great opportunity to learn more about the Catholic faith.

 

R.C.I.C.—Rite of Christian Initiation of Children is scheduled to begin September 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. This program is for children who have not received the Sacraments of Baptism or First Communion.  It is also for children who are not Catholic, but would like to be so.

 

5TH SUNDAY LITURGICAL MINISTERS NEEDED

REMINDERS AND UPDATES

 

YOUNG ADULT GROUP NOTICE

St. Mary’s 20/30 Something Group is collecting school supplies for K-12 students in need.  Supplies will go to students at St. Mary’s school and at schools in the larger Columbus community.  Teachers report that the supplies they need most are backpacks, scientific calculators, and high school level dictionaries.  But any general school supplies such as paper, notebooks, pens and pencils, etc. are also needed.  Place your donations in one of the marked bins in the church entryway.  We will be accepting donations from Saturday, Aug. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 14.  Contact Pamela 203-7131 or Juliet at 443-9467 for more information.

 

 

20-30 SOMETHING BOOK CLUB

Join us Sept. 7th following the 11:30 Mass (mtg. place to be determined). Our first Book Review will be of "The Shack" by William P. Young.

 

 

COME TO THE PICNIC

Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus who will sponsor our parish picnic on the front lawn of the Rectory after the 11:30 mass on September 14.  Save the date and plan to come.

 

 

BINGO VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Our parish bingo workers have helped the parish a great deal over the years, but we need more volunteers. Your commitment of just one Sunday a month will assure the continued success of this important fund raiser. There is no smoking in the gym to cause health problems.  Please call the parish office at 445-9668.

 

 

CHOIR MEMBERS NEEDED…if you enjoy singing, please consider joining our 9:00 a.m. choir family. We need more members. There is no tryout and you do not have to read music. Weekly rehearsal is held each Wed. at 7:00 p.m. and resumes on Sept. 3, 2008.  For additional information contact Pat Smith at 614-542-0206.

 

 

SAVE THE DATE – FOOTBALL FUND RAISER 

St. Peter’s Church is hosting a fundraiser for Holy Rosary/St. John and the St. John Center during the OSU-USC football game on Saturday, September 13th.  The event itself is free (donations accepted, of course).  Food will be available to buy and there will be a silent auction with unique OSU-themed items.  We will also have a diamond earrings raffle. The St. John Center houses: the Community Kitchen, the St. John Learning Center, the St. John Pantry, and a variety of parish programs.  Come out and join us for this fun event that will benefit a wide variety of wonderful programs!

ST VINCENT DEPAUL 5th SUNDAY COLLECTION

It is our tradition to dedicate a special collection each 5th Sunday for this worthy cause. Please be generous as the need in our community is great. Please use your envelopes designated for St. Vincent DePaul.

SCHOOL NEWS

September 1, 2008 – NO SCHOOL,  LABOR DAY

September 4, 2008, in the school gymnasium there will be a volunteer sign-up meeting at 6:00 p.m. followed immediately by a “Meet the teacher” meeting at 7:00 p.m.

OUR LADY of CONSOLATION SHRINE, CAREY, OHIO…...will be hosting a Family Day on Sunday, September 28th.  We welcome families to come and pray together. Mass will be held at noon, followed by lunch and games for the family. The day concludes with Devotions at 2:30 p.m. and individual family blessings.
