SACRAMENTS OF HEALING: The Anointing of the Sick will take place after all the masses next weekend.

The Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated:

December 16 at 2:00 here at our penance service.

December 16 at 5:30 at St. Brigid’s

December 18 and 20 at 11:15 at St. Joseph Cathedral

SPECIAL ST. LEO EVENT: Mass will be celebrated at noon on December 22nd.  The St. Leo crèche (without the holy family) will be blessed. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 5:00 to 6:00pm that same day.  Watch for other opportunities to visit the crèche in the Christmas season.

Christmas Music: The Christmas Eve 4:00 p.m. Family Mass invites you to participate in the music of the Mass. Choir and instrumentalists should come to rehearsals December 9th & 16th from 12:45 to 1:45. A third rehearsal time is yet to be announced. Please plan to attend at least 2 of the 3 rehearsals and be in place and ready to sing at 3:30 p.m. on December 24th!

FYI: the Christmas Mass schedule will be:

December 22-23 -Fourth Sunday of Advent: Regular Mass Schedule 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

December 24th -Christmas Eve: 4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and the traditional Midnight Mass

December 25th - Christmas Day: 10:00 a.m.

The Feast of Mary, Mother of God is a day of obligation this year. Mass on January 1st is at 10:00 a.m.

Annual Christmas Tree Sale at St. Mary Columbus, 700 S. 3rd St., featuring fresh top quality Douglas Fir, Fraser Fir, Scotch Pine, White Pine and Blue Spruce trees, wreathes and roping through December 23. Village Lights December 9, 2007 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Stroll, shop, dine, and enjoy the sight of 10,000 luminaries sprinkled all over the German Village area. Many shops and stores will be open, but you can enjoy the evening just by strolling the Village streets. Our beautiful, historic church will be open for visitors. And our hand bell choir will be playing Christmas music in the church from 7:30 -8:30 pm.

YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS:

Jesus Jam Rides: Rides to the Jesus Jam on December 16 can be provided for those who call Jason Shanks at 445-9668 to make a reservation.  The deadline to arrange a ride is December 14th.

Youth Group News: Our Youth Group will hold a BAKE SALE during the very popular Village Lights event on Sunday, December 9. High School students as well as 7th & 8th Graders are welcome to participate! Students might contribute a baked good or work the Bake Sale for an hour or so. For more details, call Ms. Ruefle in the School Library @ 443-2532 or email her at aruefle@cdeducation.org.

Great news folks! Linda Cotter just received the North American TOP teacher award for 2007 at the National Council of Social Studies convention in San Diego, and, today I received notices that our Annie Ruefle was accepted for the National Catholic Education Award Sr. Merriam Joseph Farrell Award as the Teacher of the Year in Region 6 of the country! She will be given her award in March 2008 at the National Catholic Education Association Convention in Indianapolis! The children gave Annie a standing ovation today for the award! It is wonderful to recognize so many fabulous teaches!  Thanks for all that you do for all of us. God bless you! S. Regina

Christmas Remembrances – forms are available in the back of church for names to be remembered in the Christmas bulletin. Please complete the form and return to the church office or place in the collection basket by December 18th.

Don't forget to get your tickets for our limited raffle for a $5,000 tuition scholarship!  The raffle winner can apply $5000 to any educational institution for the 2008-09 school year or place the money in a designated 529 account.  It's a wonderful gift for any student.  The winning ticket will be pulled on January 26th at the 3rd Annual Gala & Auction, and you need not be present to win.  But hurry!  ONLY 500 TICKETS WILL BE SOLD!  Tickets cost $20 each and may be purchased in the school office or by calling 444-8994.

We are in need of volunteers to sell trees on Saturday and Sunday - 2 hour slots. Saturday shifts range from 10:00am through 10:00pm, the Sunday shifts are from 10:00am through 6:00pm (9:00p.m. this Sunday only for the Village Lights). Please fill out the volunteer tear out and put in the collection basket.
