FROM FATHER THOMAS: You perhaps will recall the feasibility study the diocese did for us a couple of months ago.  The question concerned whether or not we could mount a fund drive to set up a pool of money to grant tuition scholarships to some of our students who would qualify based on financial need.  The study was positive, but I don’t have hard figures, as the diocese returned an informal report. Please call me if you would like a copy. The finance committee has been given copies. We will be forming a special leadership committee, and will begin the actual campaign in 2008 as part of the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. This means we will save postage and billing costs as the diocese will handle that for us. Watch for more details as we proceed. These pledged funds will be added to proceeds from the golf outing and the Gala so that no student has to be turned away from our school because their family cannot pay our full tuition costs. Two reservations raised in the study need to be addressed. Some wanted to know if we can continue the restoration of our historic church. Others asked if the above plan is a long term solution. On the first question, I have asked a couple parishioners to review with me proposals to repair our bells and clock tower and clocks. I see that and the walks around the church and school as major priorities. As to the second question, I see this pledge plan as giving us breathing room (maybe four years) to address truly long range planning for our parish and school. At the recent meeting of the finance committee, we reviewed income and expenses for 25% of our fiscal year. We tried to project income and expenses for the rest of the year. I can’t be positive, but I think we will end up with a slight deficit or surplus in our operating budget for the year ending June 30th, 2008. A lot will depend on heating bills, Christmas and Easter collections and other variables that are hard to predict.

High School Students and students in the 7th and 8th grades are invited to a Youth Group meeting in the Atrium tonight (Sunday) at 7:00pm.  Father Thomas will be asking for ideas for upcoming events, and refreshments will be served.
