FROM THE PASTOR

Dear parishioners,

This Tuesday we will celebrate the Fourth of July, the birth of our nation. The Mass on this National holiday will be at 9:00 a.m. It is an opportune time to give thanks for our freedom to worship God as we choose.

This week we celebrate the feast day of St. Thomas, the apostle. St. Thomas had to touch and see to believe. We have recently celebrated the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. In the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist we do indeed “touch and see” Jesus. And this Friday, the first Friday of July we will have our traditional afternoon of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament beginning at the Noon Mass and closing with Evening Prayer, rosary and Benediction that begins at 5:00 p.m.

Again, I would ask you, if you know of anyone unable to attend Mass please call the parish office and let us know about this person. The Eucharist is a great healing sacrament of both body and soul.

Please note that the only Mass Monday, July 10th will be at 6:30 p.m. and there will be no confessions Tuesday, July 11th.

As always, I pray for the Lord’s blessing to be with all of you and your families.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Hammond

All Parish and school Employees / Volunteers are required to attend a Protecting God’s Children Seminar and have a BCI Background Check done on them. It is crucial for our volunteers who have care, custody, or control of children to know that you are required to do this. If you are unwilling to do so, you will not be permitted to continue as a parish volunteer. We will have an on-site audit of our facility in the near future. The safety of our children and young people is best assured when all adults have been trained and understand how to build a safe environment for children. St. Mary’s will host a Protecting God’s Children session on Saturday, August 5th from 12 Noon to 3 PM in the atrium (Burkley Center). To register go to www.virtus.org. No user id or password is needed to register for a session. Fingerprinting for the background check should be done at another time either at the Catholic Center 197 E. Gay St. or at one of the area high schools. Please call first to make arrangements.
