BAA –The theme for the 2006 Bishop’s Annual Appeal, “Called to Serve Others”, explains the reason we give and the importance of our gifts. At St. Mary’s, we look to the past with deep gratitude for the great dedication of the generations which have preceded us. As people of faith, it is our turn to step up for future generations as we look to the future with a profound sense of hope. This year, our diocesan goal is $41,714. Our development committee has recommended to me that we make our goal as a parish this year a total of $100,000. Please prayerfully reflect upon a gift in proportion to your financial blessings.  If you have not yet filled in your 2006 Bishop’s Annual Appeal envelope please do so soon. We are obligated to contact everyone who does not respond.

Dear parishioners,

There are a couple of things to note about this week’s schedule.  First, this is a holiday weekend. Mass on Monday, Memorial Day, will be at 9:00 AM instead of the usual noon.  Also, this Friday is a “first Friday”, which means that we will have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the noon Mass, Adoration during the afternoon, and Rosary, Evening Prayer, and Benediction beginning at 5PM.  Please try this Friday to come and make a visit to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, for this is a great way to grow in holiness and faith.

The 2006 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is off to a good start. As you prayerfully reflect upon a gift in proportion to your financial blessings, please know that I am grateful to you for your sacrifice, regardless of the amount. I ask everyone to pray for the success of this appeal, as it can potentially benefit not only the diocese but St. Mary’s as well.

A few things that you might want to mark on your calendar: St. Mary’s Annual Corpus Christi procession will be June 18th. We plan to have a procession in the streets of German Village. Everyone is invited and encouraged to come and experience this form of respect and devotion for the True Presence of Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.

Saint Mary’s Parish 81st Annual Homecoming Festival is Friday & Saturday, August 11th & 12th.

Please know of my continued prayers for God’s blessing to be with all of you and your families.

Sincerely in the Lord,

Fr. Hammond

**New Altar Server training Sunday June 4th and 11th following the 9:00 a.m. Mass. Any St. Mary parishioner grade 3-8 may attend.

DONATIONS FOR THE HOMECOMING SILENT AUCTION are needed – everything from tickets to trinkets, artworks to auto-works, season passes to services, food to football. If you know of an organization willing to donate, please contact the parish office at 445-9668. Sandra Thompson, Silent Auction chair.

Memorial Day weekend cemetery office hours will be: Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Monday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Memorial Day Masses will be at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph, Mt Calvary and Holy Cross and 1 p.m. at Resurrection.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day to remember those who have died in our nation's service.

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen."
