From the Pastor

Dear parishioners,

It sure is hard to believe that we are now in April, spring has begun, and Holy Week and Easter are almost here!  During these last couple of weeks of Lent, I encourage everyone to really devote ourselves to deeper prayer and preparation for the celebration of the central mysteries of our faith – the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This Friday is a “first Friday”, which means that we will again have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament after the noon Mass, with Adoration all afternoon, concluding with Rosary, evening prayer, and Benediction starting at 5:00 PM.  In addition, the stations of the cross will be celebrated here at St. Mary’s at 7:00 PM.  These are beautiful prayers, and I want to encourage all who can to come and participate.

As you know, next Sunday is Palm Sunday.  And that’s the beginning of Holy Week.  For those who plan ahead, our Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper will be on April 13 at 7:00 PM, Good Friday celebration of the Lord’s Passion will be on April 14 at 3:00 PM, and the Easter Vigil will begin at 8:30 PM on April 15.  Masses on Easter Sunday morning will be at the regular times of 9:00 AM and 11:30 AM.

Please say a special prayer for those who are preparing to join the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil.  We have a large group again this year, and they have been working hard in their study of the Catholic faith!  May the Lord bring the good work He has begun in them to completion.

May God bless and be with all of you and your families.

Sincerely in Christ,

Fr. Hammond

Please mark you calendar – St. Mary will be the site of the South Vicariate celebration of  the feast of Divine Mercy on Sunday, April 23rd. Pope John Paul II declared the first Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday.

This day will begin with Mass at 11:30 followed by Exposition of The Blessed Sacrament, adoration & prayer, opportunity for individual confession, speakers, Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, vespers, and benediction.

Dear St. Mary’s Church members: We were so happy with the U-Haul full of items you collected for us. We really needed everything. We wish to thank you for all that you do to help the many economically deprived persons who are served by St. Francis Center. Thank you,

Sister Linda Lewandowski, OSF & staff

If you can give of your time and talent in one of these vital ministries please call Jason in the office at or email him at 445-9668:

Welcome Committee:  Be apart of this crucial ministry that is the voice and face of St. Mary’s to those who join our parish.  Often times it is hard for new parishioners to fill apart of a close community and to get involved.  This committee is an advocate for new parishioners.  Furthermore, they reach out to bereaved parishioners, give parish tours, and organize dinners for parishioners to get to know the pastor better.

Social Concerns Committee: We are in need of an enthusiastic and organized leader to head up our Spring Help-At-Home project.

Marriage Team: We are looking for married couples who would like to share their experiences and knowledge with soon-to-be-married couples.

FYI: The Marriage Information Night will change it’s day from the third Monday of each month to the third Tuesday of each month beginning April 18th. The time and place will remain the same 7 PM in the Burkley center.
