From the Pastor

Dear parishioners,

This weekend we begin our vicariate mission!  Traditionally, many parishes (or groups of parishes in our case) offer these “missions” as a kind of community retreat.  These missions help us to deepen our faith and come to a greater understanding of how God works in our lives.  We hope, as a result, to grow in holiness and have our hearts burn with God’s great love.

So I ask everyone to please participate in the mission to the very best of your ability.  There will be a presentation every night at 7:00 PM, starting Sunday December 4th at St. Mary’s.  We plan on about one hour for the presentations, and then some priests will be available to hear confessions after the talks each evening.  Thursday night, we will conclude the mission not with a presentation, but with the holy day Mass for the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Please note that since we will hear confessions every night, there will not be a parish penance service for Advent this year.  Also, please note that the presentations will take place at rotating sites, so please check the bulletin for the schedule.

Finally, for those who are unable to attend the mission, please pray for its success.  We pray for God to send the Holy Spirit to be with Fr. Thomas Sullivan, C.P.M., who will give the mission.  May this truly be a time for all of us to come to a greater awareness of God’s abundant mercy and His infinite love!

As always, I pray for the Lord’s blessing to be with all of you during this holy season.

Sincerely in the Lord Jesus,

Fr. Hammond

This week’s focus:   Trust in God

…by all means trust in God with your whole heart, and He will Himself be your strength, wherein you may trust with piety and thankfulness, and to Him you may say with humility and boldness, "I will love thee, O Lord, my strength; because even the love of God, which, when it is perfect, "casts out fear," is shed abroad in our hearts, not by our strength, that is, by any human power, but, as the apostle says, "by the Holy Ghost, which is given unto us."
