FROM THE PASTOR

Dear parishioners,

With great joy we received this past week the news that we have a new Pope, Benedict XVI. In his initial remarks after being elected, he stated that he would rely on our prayers for him. So let us be sure to include him regularly in the list of people for whom we pray. May the Lord bless him with wisdom and insight, so that he will effectively be the sign of Christ whose vicar he is. We give thanks to the Lord for sending Benedict to be our pope. Viva il Papa!

As you may know, the 2005 Bishop’s Annual Appeal will start next weekend. At all of the Masses, I will speak about the needs of our diocese and the needs of our parish and school here at St. Mary’s. Last year, this was a very successful appeal, and I am grateful for everyone’s generosity. I am confident that we will have another excellent year, and I ask everyone to begin praying for the success of this year’s campaign.

Fr. Stanton has recently informed me that he has an apartment at the Villas of St. Therese, so he will be moving there soon. We were blessed to have him here for so many years at St. Mary’s, and we are grateful for all he has done! We will be having a reception for him, so please look for more details about this in the future.

As always, I continue to pray for God’s blessing to be with all of you and your families.

Sincerely in Christ Jesus,

Fr. Hammond

WALK FOR LIFE! Please help support the Pregnancy Decision Health Centers by taking part in the Walk for Life on Saturday, May 7th. There are 4 sites around Columbus where people will gather to walk on the 8th. If that day is not convenient, you may walk anytime, anywhere - even around your own neighborhood! Pick up a walk form or sponsor a walker after mass on 4/24-25 in back of church. All details are included on the walk form. Any questions may be directed to Kathy Chellis on 443-1001.

DONATIONS FOR THE HOMECOMING SILENT AUCTION are needed – everything from tickets to trinkets, artworks to auto-works, season passes to services, food to football. If you know of an organization willing to donate, please contact us. Call Sandra Thompson, 444-5811 or Nancy Auer, 445-9668.

A word of Thanks The choir members of the Pontifical College Josephinum would like to express their sincere gratitude for the overwhelmingly generous support so many of you showed when members of the choir where recently at St. Mary's selling our new CD.  All proceeds and donations are helping to offset the cost of our trip to Italy this summer.  If you have not purchased a CD yet and would like to, you may do so by calling the Josephinum at 614-885-5585.  The cost of the music CD is $20.00. Thank you for your most generous support and kind prayers. The St Mary's parish community is in our daily prayers. Sincerely, The Pontifical College Josephinum Choir

BAA: "In preparation for the upcoming Bishop's Annual Appeal, the Development Committee is requesting some assistance. We are need of volunteers to help follow up with parishioners by phone - we'll be making calls during the weeks of May 14th-23rd; the time commitment is expected to be only a few hours. Please call Cindy Oddi in the parish office if you are able to assist. Many, many thanks for any help you can give!
